I am a single dad, starting over, and I need some guidelines for putting togethe

Starting over can be a terrifying and very intimidating experience, but if there is one thing destined to raise your spirits during such a time, it's updating your wardrobe...and I am honored to help! When it comes to outfitting any man, what I love is the simple yet understated elegance found in masculine wardrobe basics. Be it top or bottom pieces, a pair of shoes or a sleek jacket, menswear closet staples are easy to mix and match giving you a plethora of outfits.

In dispensing style advice for women, I often recommend starting with the bottom part of one's outfit and building around it; for men it's absolutely no different. Every guy should own a pair of raw denim that will work miracles when being coordinated with a top and accessories. While you may be tempted to stick with a relaxed and almost baggy fit, I say update your look with a pair that are slim and straight instead. Shirt wise, my two favorite options are a clean and crisp v-neck tee or a classic plaid long sleeve button up. The v-neck is a simple to wear everyday style that easily transitions from event to event; wear it while on a fun outing with your kids or for a casual dinner with friends. Plaid shirts also offer great versatility on account of their long sleeves; roll them up during the day, then roll them down and button up at night.

Since the cold weather is upon us, now is also the time to invest in some key outwear pieces. If you want to have some fun with your clothing, buy a leather flight jacket that will totally transform and polish your look. For a slightly more relaxed style, cover yourself with a cool army-inspired jacket complete with cargo pockets.

In the footwear department, you can't go wrong with boyish slip-on boat shoes or rugged lace-up military boots. For both styles, you have the option of going vintage-a pair that have been slightly broken in and worn will achieve a timeless look. Top off any of these options with modern yet age-appropriate accessories-think: a wide-brim fedora hat and classic striped scarf-and you'll be the coolest dad on the playground. xoRZ
