Alert: Proenza Schouler Just Unveiled Its Newest Bag Design

Adrianna Barrionuevo

New York City–based designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler launched the brand's iconic bag, the PS1 satchel, in 2008—and now, eight years later, the It-girl favorite is getting a makeover.

The new PS1+ was designed to give shoppers something to get excited about purchasing, and in hopes of doubling the brand's handbag sales. Hernandez tells WWD that the current market is "saturated with sameness," and believes that people want "new well-designed fashion-forward product."

At a glance, the PS1+ is noticeably structured and features pebbled leather, unlike its slouchy, smooth leather-crafted older sister. The designers took consumer feedback while developing the new design for over a year and removed the knot from the original style in addition to making the lining sturdier with canvas fabric. (Bonus: They also added a second pocket large enough for an iPad.)

"To me, a girl eight years ago who was wearing the PS1 I could see carrying the PS1+ now," says McCollough. The OG PS1 will remain a part of the collection when the plus version makes its debut in January, and both styles will have the same price point.
