The shoes we¬'re currently coveting are a combination of many things¬--some are a little subversive, others are a bit chaste¬--but no matter what, they¬'re laced (up, that is). If you¬'ve checked out the fall fashion coverage, you surely noticed the vast number of shows, like Alexander Wang and BCBG Max Azria, featuring ankle boots. While at first glance, the lace up might seem to fall under this shoe-style umbrella, we think they require their own category, thanks to the sheer diversity of styles.
Today¬'s images showcase the variety of lace ups and the undercurrents each look implies. When they¬'ve got a heel and lots of laces, as seen on Sienna Miller, above, they have a very naughty Victorian air. The gray patent version Gwyneth Paltrow wore reference menswear (they remind us of a stylish version of military dress oxfords), while Miss Moss picked a punky pair (try saying that five times, fast). We are especially fond of the orthopedic vibe of Carrie Bradshaw¬'s shoes as well.
If you¬'re interested in a peep-toe pair like Carrie¬'s, take a gander at Vince Camuto¬'s Maran Oxfords ($129.99). These patent leather, high heeled lace ups come in dark gray, dark red and black and have a hidden platform for greater foot comfort. Girls who want Gwyneth¬'s gray shoes should take a look at Circa Joan & David¬'s Sage Oxford Pump ($128.95). They¬'re made out of suede, resulting in a softer look than Paltrow¬'s pair. Sienna¬'s prim-and-proper heels are by Burberry, but we think Ash's Travis Lace Up Pumps are kindred spirit shoes ($185).
