If you’ve checked out Nasty Gal recently, you probably noticed the same thing we did: they’re killing it. The clothes are great, of course, but the way they’re styled is even better. In fact, the Nasty Gal look is so memorable, we asked their head stylist, Ashley Glorioso, to share some of the brand’s best styling tips. How do you get the most mileage out of a swimsuit this summer?
Bathing suit top = regular top. Not a little triangle bikini top, you can wear a crop top or bustier style with some high-waisted denim cut-offs, an oversized cardi, and a pair of statement sandals, et voila—you are ready for a pool party.

What is the best way to mix designer pieces with thrifty thrills?
I love mixing high and low. A high-end item styled with cheap basics keeps things interesting! Start with a SUPER classic piece, like a really nice blazer or coat, and then pair that baby with everything from a simple white tank and your boyfriend’s old ripped jeans, to a summer dress or pinafore. I think investing in classic pieces is the best way to go when buying designer. Trends come and go, but the classics will always be just that.

What’s your formula for layering jewelry?
This is actually the one area where I say: NO RULES! Mix and match however you like. Mix metals, wear a lot, wear a little – I think jewelry is such a personal style statement that there shouldn’t be any parameters here. If I had to make any rules or tips, it would be to try to stay in the same genre, like bohemian or minimalistic.

How do you incorporate your off-duty style into office-appropriate looks?
Trousers are really having a moment right now. You can pair them with a simple top and slides or with a vintage tee and heels. The possibilities are endless.

Nasty Gal offers a pretty expansive collection of crop tops – do you have any out-of-the-box styling tips for wearing them?
I think the two best ways to wear crop tops are with trousers, to de-sexy-fy, or with a high-waisted skirt (mini, midi, maxi—that part doesn't matter!), to avoid showing too much belly! Unless you've been hitting the gym hard and want to show off your full stomach, in which case I fully support that as well, so go on with your bad self!

How do you achieve that perfect laidback shirt tuck?
The "sloppy tuck" (as we like to call it) is very serious business in our styling department! It starts with a deep side tuck that is pulled out oh-so perfectly, just enough so that it doesn't add any extra bulk around the stomach (cause no one wants that!). I like a full tuck when you are going for more of a ‘70s babe vibe, with high-waisted jeans or shorts.

What key shoe trends are worth buying into this spring and summer?
I hate to say it....but slides are here to stay. I recommend a nice neutral pair (if you don't want to go full granola Birkenstock), like these bad boys by Jeffrey Campbell. Or if you, like myself, like a little height and help in the long leg department—a good pair of platforms is the way to go.

There are lots of sheer or lace tops and dresses this season. What are some great pieces for wearing underneath something see-through?
Tis' the season for sheer tops---and there are so many options nowadays that it’s easy to find pretty underthings for layering! This SKIVVIES bodysuit is great for sheer dresses, and if you're feeling a little more demure, a full slip is super easy to throw under a sheer black dress!

Do you have any tricks for incorporating more colors into a neutral outfit?
Accessories (shoes, bags and sunglasses) are always a really easy way to inject color into your day without actually having to commit to color! I love an all-neutral sporty vibe outfit paired with a colorful heel.
