How Minimalists Do Red Carpet Dressing
During award season, champagne-colored dresses are a dime a dozen. That’s not to say that we don’t think they’re gorgeous, but every major red carpet event always provides at least one iteration of the neutral-toned, sparkly hue. But Naomie Harris totally turned the trend on its head with her latest outfit at this week's National Board of Review gala.
The Golden Globe nominee chose a sand-colored pantsuit by Brandon Maxwell. The top was a shiny texture that reflected the light from those simultaneous red carpet flashes, while the bottom half ballooned out slightly to a structured, oversize silhouette with a lot of elegant movement. The look was clean, minimal, and powerful, and its simplicity left all the attention on the woman who was wearing it and not the other way around. We also love that Maxwell—who's undoubtedly a designer to look out for during this upcoming award season—opted for a more subtle satin sheen rather the more obvious choice of glittery sparkle.
