We all have at least one person in our lives¬--perhaps a sister, aunt, or best friend¬--who constantly inspires us with their style. Just like a guru to her disciple, these fashion masters teach us about the latest trends, hand down their old Vogue magazines, and introduce us to amazing, lesser-known shopping locales. Most importantly, they rouse our creativity with their revolutionary way of dressing. While they are not a part of our immediate inner circle, we feel that our MySpace Muses are a part of this influential category too. Every month, they silently inspire the WhoWhatWear.com staff (and readers too) through their refreshing and confident outfit ideas. You can see for yourself by perusing our February set¬--a particularly enlightened bunch, if we do say so¬--which features some truly noteworthy style!
We begin our muse overview today with Natalie (top row, far left) from Richmond, Canada. The stylish teenager caught our eye by pairing popular lace tights with an understated plaid skirt. The textured hosiery is an unexpected delight with the dark tartan skirt, and the overall look is fashion-forward and fun. Try this chic combo by coupling your own lace tights from last season or Urban Outfitters' Lace Fishnet Tights ($14) with BCBGeneration's Katia Skirt ($62).
Since inspiring street style is a worldwide occurrence, we strive to include girls from as many different places as possible in this column. A case in point is our second gal, Eszter (top row, middle), who hails all the way from Vienna, Austria. Eszter earned our accolades by balancing out her all-leather ensemble with a gray sweater. To get a similar style, consider wearing one of our Top Five: Gray Pieces or Banana Republic's Long Shawl Cardigan
($70) with a leather jacket and Silence & Noise's Moto Zip Matte Leggings ($58).
Next up, we present you with a stylish resident of Hannover, Germany: Ricky (top row, far right)! She charmed the WhoWhatWear.com team on account of her military jacket and feminine bow. The juxtaposed look can be emulated via ASOS' Moleskin Asymmetric Military Jacket ($43) and Miu Miu's Bow Alice Band ($130).
Yet another engaging combo is the outfit Krystal (bottom row, far left) put together. The Los Angeles native stood out amongst other MySpace Muse entrants, thanks to her bold red bag and bright purple trousers. A like-minded statement-making getup can be achieved with Forever 21's Vintage Chain Braided Handbag ($25) and American Apparel's Mineral Wash Stretch Bull Denim Slim Slacks ($74).
To address one of our favorite new trends, we turned to Juley (bottom row, middle) from New Orleans, who flaunted a fashion-forward belted sweater for staggering results. Since belted jackets and coats are a sure-fire hit for spring¬--see the Marc Jacobs runway for one of our favorite examples¬--stay ahead of the curve by investing in Vince's Belted Cotton Cardigan ($285) or cinch in a sweater you already have with Miu Miu's Double Buckle Belt ($370).
Last, but certainly not least, we present you with Florida-local, Trang (bottom row, far right). The fashionista updated her timeless trench coat with some of-the-moment accessories. If you want to get the look, we suggest complementing Banana Republic's Short-Sleeve Trench Dress
($150) or JCrew's Icon Trench
($298) with Urban Outfitters' Cable Stitch Beret ($28).¬--Jessica Amento
