An Expert Agrees: The #1 Color of the Year Flatters All Skin Tones
While the literal Color of the Year, according to Pantone, might be green, there is another hue infiltrating the likes of the fashion world all the same, and that hue is pink. It seems that lately, no matter where we turn, a new pink item, whether it be clothing or an accessory, catches our eye. In addition to our simple adoration for the color on a surface level, there is a deeper reason we are seeing this color bubble up: It is a color that flatters all skin tones. That's right—all. To clarify, not every shade of pink will look good on every skin color, but there is definitely a shade of pink out there for everyone, and you'll quickly learn why.
We reached out to color expert Kate Smith of Sensational Color for more insight as to why exactly pink looks beautiful on all skin tones, and let us assure you that the reason is fascinating. In addition to the fact-driven reason this color looks flattering, Smith also gave us insight as to why this color is making women feel flattered while wearing it. Both insights are equally important in our books, and we can't wait to share her words with you here:
"With everything that is going on around us right now, there are many reasons women are gravitating to pink. Pink is the color of innocence, happiness, and sweet love. It is a color that lightens our heart and gently nurtures our soul," says Smith. "For women who are often overworked and overburdened, an attraction to pink may speak of a desire for the more carefree days of their youth or to experience again the unconditional love they felt as a child. Pink is a color strongly associated with the feminine part of all of us. It is a color of passion and energy tempered with compassion and kindness. It is a color that unites woman and communicates hope for the future."
No matter how dark or light your skin tone, pink is part of what makes it up.
Now, the reason pink works for every skin tone is this: "No matter how dark or light your skin tone, pink is part of what makes it up. For some, it is a cooler pure pink while for others a warmer coral pink, but it is always there. Skin tones all have some hint of red/pink—some combinations of these colors produce lighter tones and some darker. Although the end result can look quite different, the underlying colors are not."
