Picture the rock ‘n’ roll spirit of Elvis shimmying its way into the tropics, and you have Isabel Marant’s S/S 13 show, which somehow brilliantly combined the two concepts for a stylish and cohesive collection. The designer, inspired by The King’s Aloha From Hawaii concert circa 1973, showed bold florals on everything from graphic sweaters to skinny jeans. Yet, if the studded leather pieces were any indication, it was clear Elvis had not left the building. The latter half of Marant’s show, however, hinted at her signature bohemian slant. Floaty skirts and micro shorts captured the je ne sais quoi attitude of muses like Jane Birkin and Brigitte Bardot, and cemented Marant’s status as queen of effortless chic.
