The May cover of Vogue is as refreshing as an icy Grolsh on a sweltering day, as it features models, models, models...and nary a single celebrity. The bold coverline touts ¬"The World¬'s Next Top Models,¬" as such former WhoWhatWearDaily feted gals like Hilary Rhoda, Coco Rocha, and Agyness Deyn (who all made the list of 10 ¬"new superstars¬"). We were particularly delighted by Vogue¬'s savvy arrangement of their subjects, because our current favorite fashion muse is sitting front and center. Dear readers, today we give you Sasha Pivovarova¬--Model of the Moment.
The Moscow-born, feline beauty has been on our radar for ages, because she¬'s very much the new Gemma Ward, no? We¬'re not the only ones who dig on her luminous doll face and anime-large eyes. Sasha¬'s been the face of Prada since F/W 05, and you can see her currently in the resort campaign. We recently received confirmation that she's the exclusive face for Prada F/W 07, making this the fifth sequential season she's worked with the house. That is insanely noteworthy. Also, Sasha recently pulled the coup of being shot solo for March¬'s French Vogue cover¬--not bad for two years in the industry!
Often found backstage at shows sketching¬--she was studying fine arts when she was discovered¬--we hear that Teen Vogue will publish some of her works in the upcoming June issue. One can see this artistic eye in the way Sasha puts herself together. Candid shots show the model favoring edgy head wraps and creatively combining somber colored, patterned fabrics. We¬'re particularly curious about her choice for this year's Met Museum Costume Institute Party (hopefully to be reported on later this week) as it's sure to be amazing...
