The Theme for the 2016 Met Gala Is Here!

Meghan Blalock

The annual Met Gala, hosted by the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute, is known as the fashion world's Oscars, and for good reason. Everyone who's anyone in fashion attends, and they always pull out some of their best looks. Each year, there's a different theme—and the 2016 edition promises to be riveting.

According to Voguewhich co-hosts the event, this morning the Met announced that next year's event would be themed Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology. To us, this theme is perfectly on-point, as the fashion world continues to strive to keep up with technology's demands.

"Traditionally, the distinction between the haute couture and prêt-à-porter was based on the handmade and the machine-made," Andrew Bolton, curator of the Costume Institute, said during the announcement. "But recently this distinction has become increasingly blurred as both disciplines have embraced the practices and techniques of the other."

Not only does the choice show a distinct self-awareness on behalf of the Costume Institute, but it's going to make for a thrilling red carpet. What do you think of the theme? Tell us below!
