Inside Louis Vuitton's Rio Show With Super-Blogger Sofie Valkiers
It’s Resort 17 time, which in modern fashion speak basically translates as the period where the world’s biggest houses up sticks and transport their style-set world across the globe for ever more immersive and lavish experiences.
We’ve already witnessed Chanel in Cuba, and Dior is about to stage a grand runway in the British countryside at Blenheim Palace. But yesterday Louis Vuitton and the Parisian fashion house’s artistic director, Nicolas Ghesquière, made Rio de Janiero, Brazil, their port of call and, as a result, the very epicentre of everything important in the fashion world.
Providing us with an inside line on this seriously chic adventure is Sofie Valkiers of Fashionata. The über-blogger is no stranger to jet-setting around the globe in the name of style, but with helicopter rides, a seriously starry FROW (yes, she really did bump into Jaden Smith at the designated hotel’s breakfast buffet) and the opportunity to even hit the beach, this was a particularly dreamy opportunity. Great clothes, great weather, great tales to tell… What more could a girl ask for?
Read Valkier’s divine Louis Vuitton diary below…
“Starting the day by running into Jaden Smith at our hotel’s breakfast must mean it’s going to be a pretty good day, right?”
“OMG, the helicopter flight Louis Vuitton has planned for us turns out to be one of the most memorable experiences of my life! Flying so close to the Christ statue and Sugarloaf Mountains makes me fully aware of how humble and small I am—in the best way possible!“
“Getting together with the Louis Vuitton crew at the Bazzar restaurant before the big day.”
“I’m wearing a black-and-white Louis Vuitton midi dress, a blue Louis Vuitton Twist MM Bag (£2300), and Aquazzura Pina Colada Patent Heels (£620).”
“Right before the hustle and bustle of the show, I take some time to relax at Ipanema beach, enjoying the cute welcoming gifts of our host.”
“Taking a little stroll to explore my beautiful surroundings, wearing a Rio-inspired outfit with a breezy Tibi Lurex Fil Coupe Chase Dress (£475), a Yosuzi Tulum Hat (£260), and Louis Vuitton South Beach Sandals (£570).”
“Getting ready for the show! I opt for a tousled blunt bob, natural lips and smokey eyes to complement my outfit (check out my Snapchat for the secret beauty finishing touch EVERY Brazilian girl swears by!). Not pictured: a little dress emergency that made my heart stop and had us racing to the show. Yep, this is real life.”
“We made it! So happy with how my Louis Vuitton outfit turned out; the white ruffles, see-through top, and pink squares of the Go 14 PM Bag (£2600) hint at the typical Brazilian femininity, but the black details on the shoulders and patent leather Cosplay Low Boots (£880) definitely give the whole look a bit of an edge.“
“The Niterói Museum of Contemporary Art feels like the perfect venue for presenting this collection. There’s something so magical about the contrast between the stern modernism of the building and its natural background.”
“Catching up with the girls before the show starts.”
“I absolutely ADORE the bright colors and futuristic vibes of the opening looks. They really capture the unique Brazilian energy I’ve fallen in love with.”
“The vibrant leather goods are to die for as well. This truly feels like a breath of fresh air.”
“My favorite look of the show! The contrast between the ruffled cutout minidress and the masculine lace-up sandals is perfection.”
“Another favorite of mine. The nude cropped top matches so nicely with the casual, almost athletic, trousers.”
“I especially love the accessories of this look: A bit of bling and lots of colour are a nice addition to the soft, structured minidress.”
“The finale!”
“Whenever Louis Vuitton does something, even the weather gods oblige—what a perfect evening!”
“Ready for the afterparty at this beautiful building, the Parque Lage in the Botanical Gardens.”
“When in Brazil, you dance…”
“…and dance.”
“…and dance. Thanks so much, Nicolas Ghesquière, for paying such an amazing tribute to one of my favorite countries in the world!
“XO Sofie”
