We're not ones to shy away from any vibrant color, but when it comes to our preferred hue this spring, there's one in particular we plan on wearing over and over again: pink! In the past, it's earned a reputation as a saccharine shade popular amongst those with ultra cutesy, girly sensibilities. And though we're a sucker for sweetly feminine ensembles too, we've fallen for a cool new way to wear pink in the form of retro-inspired accessories and chic pieces with a downtown spin. We pinky swear you'll love this color-infused look as well!
On The Runway
Pink took a decidedly boyish turn in Costume National's S/S 12 runway collection. Designer Ennio Capasa's boxy Top ($710) and Short Sleeve Shirt ($735) lend a pair of Casual Pants ($1105) in Pink and two-tone High-Heeled Sandals ($695) a quirky, schoolboy-inspired vibe. The slouchy, cropped silhouette of the trousers cleverly balances out its posy-colored shade, resulting in a pretty yet slightly androgynous look. At Valentino's S/S 12 show, Pier Paolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri opted for a more feminine vibe with a brightly colored strapless gown. A solid pink column that skims over curves for a flattering silhouette, this laid-back number appears both sleek and highly modern. The dress is suitable for spring break getaways, summer vacations, and weddings, particularly when it's teamed with pulled-back hair, statement earrings, and sandals a la the runway!
On The Red Carpet & Street
We noticed similar interpretations of this colorful trend appearing on the red carpet as well. At Salvatore Ferragamo's Signorina fragrance launch in New York last month, Australian model Jessica Hart aimed for tailored nonchalance and a striking color combo in the label's Pink Leather Pants (price upon request, 800.628.8916) and Equipment's Signature Shirt ($208) in Black. Instead of turning to typical night-on-the-town attire, Hart paired her cool outfit with sleek accents, like Ferragamo's Black Lizard Minaudiere ($1290, 800.628.8916) and velvet pumps from F/W 11, which are sadly no longer available, for a bold alternative. Though Hart chose to display a pop of color with a single outstanding piece, Dianna Agron didn't shy away from head-to-toe pink. Snapped at the Marni at H&M launch party in Los Angeles back in February, the actress channeled a ladylike look in H&M's Top ($50) and a demure midi skirt. The two contrasting shades of pink--a candy-pink hue teamed with a muted, duskier shade--aren't overwhelming at all; instead, the combo looks supremely polished and elegant on Agron! We've also spotted flashes of fuchsia in the form of outstanding accessories. Though we're sure you've noticed The Cambridge Satchel Company's ubiquitous carriers on top tastemakers lately, we'd like to point out the label's magnificent Fluoro Bag (starts at $166). At Paris Fashion Week S/S 12, we spotted a particularly fashion-forward dresser sporting the purse in neon pink and pulling off this trend with aplomb.
Get The Look/Bold Pieces
Whether you want to try an all-pink ensemble like Agron or focus on a single essential a la Hart, we found a number of options that will have you tickled pink! Stylesetters with more feminine sensibilities will adore Topshop's Fluro Dip Hem Dress ($96) in Fluro Pink, a silky, statement-making number ideal for a summer soiree. For a slightly more casual getup, try Mango's Three Quarter Sleeved Sweatshirt ($60) in Baby Pink paired with Jenni Kayne's Flat Front Lace Skirt ($450, 310.860.0123) in Pink. Worn together, these pieces offer a sporty-meets-girly look just right for spring, but they're also versatile apart! To channel an edgier vibe, pick structured pink pieces like Elie Tahari's Wendy Jacket ($328) in Island Coral. The blazer's suitable for your 9-to-5, but it's also weekend-appropriate paired with jeans. Speaking of jeans, if you're into colored renditions, check out Joe's Jeans' The Skinny Jeans ($158) in Cerise. This curve-hugging pair comes in a rich magenta shade that livens up any outfit right away!

Care to go the subtle route when it comes to this vivid trend? Slip on Marais USA's Espadrille Wedges ($110) in Blush, a pair of ankle-strap sandals in pastel pink that appear both stylish and comfortable. And while we love the Cambridge Satchel's neon purse, ModCloth's Wildly Whimsical Bag ($65), crafted in pink faux ostrich skin, is an equally chic alternative this season. For an even smaller dose of pink, we recommend C Wonder's Saffiano Leather Super Skinny Belt ($38) in Flamingo or Kate Spade New York's Franca Sunglasses ($128). Both add just the right touch of the rosy-colored hue to your ensemble, until you're ready to embrace head-to-toe pink!--Tiffany Tse
