Chloe Sevigny x Opening Ceremony + Eddie Borgo
While we usually restrict ourselves to spotlighting one must-have line at a time, this month our sartorial hearts skipped a beat, well, twice. And who can blame us, as January welcomes the release of Chloe Sevigny's newest collaboration with Opening Ceremony and a new collection from punk-posh jeweler Eddie Borgo, who is beloved by top-tier members of the fashion cognoscenti (think: Vanessa Traina, Lauren Santo Domingo, and Kate Lanphear). Presented with such a plethora of titillating product, we just couldn't limit our coverage-cult brands make us weak in the knees!-so this month we're piling on the panache with two new Lines We Love!
First up: Chloe Sevigny's latest partnership with hipster-beloved brand Opening Ceremony. In the Big Love star's third outing with the cool-kid label, she channels a nineties version of, well, herself with a mix-and-match collection that focuses on five prints-leopard, polka dot, paisley, houndstooth, and floral-all done in a quintet of different dress silhouettes. Running the spectrum from babydoll to body-con, each frock shape was inspired by a friend of Sevigny's and is named in her honor. In addition to these key pieces, the line also includes darling reversible baseball jackets, cropped cardis, and print t-shirts featuring Robert Mapplethorpe photographs, all styled with chunky heels (mary janes, ankle boots, and more) and scrunchy socks for an up-to-date My So-Called Life-influenced look. Yet, while Sevigny's darling dresses and abbreviated layers are making us long for hot summer nights, there are plenty of pieces you can start wearing right this second. Sevigny's collaboration also included noteworthy patterned accessories-Fogal tights, oversized canvas totes, and cotton berets-that are just as worthy of your inner Angela Chase and winter wardrobe.
Presented in concert with our leading lady's pre-spring fare, we're also delighted to bring you the latest creations from jewelry designer extraordinaire, Eddie Borgo. Recently named runner-up of the 2010 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards, this New York-based artist is the toast of the monde du mode right now. His tough-luxe pieces, which include pave-detailed spike earrings and haute bondage cuffs, are beloved by high-profile fashion designers too, resulting in collaborations with brands like Altuzarra, Jen Kao, Marchesa, and Phillip Lim. Additionally, Borgo's pieces-which marry a glam rock sensibility with a clean, modern look-are perfect for polishing off some of spring's top sartorial trends, like Downtown Lady and Wide-Leg Pants. Accordingly, we found it fitting to highlight some of our favorite Borgo baubles in today's double-dosed installment of Lines We Love.
Rose Gold-Plated Labradorite Necklace ($625)
This serrated pendant is the perfect mix of edgy and refined, while simultaneously nodding to spring's tribal jewelry trend. The rose gold is an intriguing, classic-minded choice, while the spiky pendant lends it a cutting-edge look-literally. Pair it with luxe, neutral basics, like silky harem trousers and a field jacket, for a fashion-forward ensemble.
Gunmetal-Plated Crystal Cone Earrings ($240)
Everyday studs are undoubtedly a closet essential, and lately, we've had a yen for those with a distinct geometric shape. Borgo's gunmetal pave cones are small enough to seamlessly weave themselves into your existing wardrobe, while the black crystals add a rockstar-worthy edge. Use them to add a dose of glam to your office basics; we think they'd look extra exciting with a sleek, low bun.
Hinged Plate Ring ($275) in Silver
A statement ring is a fail-proof way to add intrigue to an outfit, and this knuckle-busting silver one has a serious cool factor. Plus, the hinged detailing is actually practical, allowing you to type, text, and tweet with ease! Pair it with your floaty seventies-inspired dresses-the clean, modern lines will ground the airy look.
Gunmetal-Plated Crystal Spike Earrings ($350)
Surprisingly versatile, these black pave crystal spikes can easily take an outfit from day to night. We think they would work in contrast with a flirty frock, but could just as easily see Elle's Style Director Kate Lanphear using them to glam up a daytime denim-on-denim look.
Gold and Silver Plated D-Ring Cuff ($225)
Every girl should have a statement cuff in her accessory arsenal, and this mixed metal iteration is an ideal pick. Not only does the mélange of gold and silver lend itself to a bevy of different ensembles, but the industrial detailing also makes it truly unique. We could easily see Marie Claire's Style and Accessories Director Taylor Tomasi Hill using it to accent any of her achingly chic outfits, such as an oversized sweater, printed skirt, designer ankle boots, and, of course, Norma Kamali cat-eye sunglasses.
Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony
Barton Perreira Darling Glasses ($325)
Here at Who What Wear, we live under the banner that a girl can never have too many sunnies, and these light-blue cat-eye sunglasses are just what we need to fulfill our colored-frame cravings. The feline shape gives them a retro feel, while the cool aqua hue renders them fresh for spring. Wear them with your new color-blocked pieces for a vibrant summer look.
Mary Sue Clogs ($380)
Fact: clogs are here to stay, and we couldn't be happier about such a footwear decree since these transitional-weather shoes go with just about everything! While Sevigny paired her bow-bedecked version with leopard-print socks and leather cutoffs, we feel the almost cartoonish height lends itself better to capping off spring's super wide-leg pants.
Lesley Peter Pan Collar Flared Dress ($475)
Polka dots and lace-trim make this retro-influenced dress very kitschy-chic, and we think the cinched-waist silhouette will be uber flattering for every figure. Play down the sweetly feminine vibe by pairing it opaque tights, lace-up combat boots, and a baseball jacket for the sort of boy-meets-girl ensemble we know Sevigny likes.
Mapplethorpe Cropped T-Shirt ($185)
Devotees of Sevigny's style know she has a penchant for printed shirts, so it was no surprise she included a capsule collection of graphic tees featuring Robert Mapplethorpe's artwork as part of her overall Opening Ceremony collaboration. Style the provocative tee with a pair of high-waisted light-wash denim trousers for a seventies-inspired spring look.-Liza Kaplan
