Of Course This L.A. Fashion Girl's Style Trick Involves This Rule
In the cluttered landscape of Instagram, there are plenty of cool fashion girls. But recently there is one who has stood out to us more than the rest. With her signature cropped bob, penchant for both feminine Dior dresses and Vetements streetwear, and command of L.A. style, Kristen Noel Crawley has mastered a look that feels uniquely her own.
Not only does she have killer fashion sense, she’s also a female entrepreneur who’s carving out a name for herself with more than a few projects under her belt. As a gallery owner, designer of KDIA Jewelry, and the woman behind KNC Beauty (whose cult lips masks you might have spotted on Emma Stone), she defines what it means to be a multidimensional career woman today. Ahead, she shares how North West inspires her style and why staying true to yourself is her number one style secret.

WHO WHAT WEAR: Tell us about you and your background. How does fashion fit into it?
KRISTEN NOEL CRAWLEY: I'm from a small town in the Midwest. Growing up I always would go to St. Louis to shop. Back then I loved brands like Juicy, DKNY, and Bebe. When I moved to LA at 19, there were many more options. I started shopping at vintage and thrift stores, mixing highs and lows as well, which is something that I do to this day.
WWW: How does living in L.A. impact your style?
KNC: L.A. is more laid-back, the weather is always nice, so I have much more chill style here than when I'm in New York or Paris. I like to be comfortable. I wear a lot of sweats and tees for my everyday look. At night, I play a little bit more.
WWW: How has your style changed over the last 10 years?
KNC: It's grown for sure, as it should. I can't wear the same things I did in my early 20s. Before I would be in sneakers all day, now I'll throw on some heels to elevate my look and make it a bit more "grown-up."
WWW: Who are your fashion icons?
KNC: North West, Aaliyah, and '90s-era Naomi.
WWW: Where do you look for inspiration?
KNC: Instagram—there are so many fly chicks out there experimenting and putting dope looks together that I haven't seen before. I have a lot of outfits saved on my page.
WWW: What is your number one style trick?
KNC: To stay true to yourself. In the past, I've seen a celeb or cool girl in a particular outfit, and I would try to re-create it. That never works for me. I've learned that I need to just wear what I feel good in regardless of what everyone else is wearing.
WWW: What would you never wear?
KNC: Something that makes me feel self-conscious.
WWW: How do you get dressed for a night out?
KNC: I usually start thinking about my outfit earlier in the day. I try to visualize what I have in my closet and make looks up in my head. If I go into my closet without a vision, I'll be in there for an hour at least and the frustration starts to build. I try not to overthink my looks.
WWW: While you have a strong fashion sense, you also have a foot in the beauty world. How does that inform your style?
KNC: Sometimes I'll think to myself, Okay, I know I want to wear a red lip tonight, and I'll play off of that. If I'm doing a bold makeup look, I can't do too much with my outfit.

WWW: Which designers are you most excited about right now?
KNC: I love what Alessandro Michele is doing at Gucci. The pieces and accessories are so fun. I just bought these platform sneakers from them that I never thought I would buy, but they're fun and cute.
I'm obsessed with Off-white. I'm so proud of Virgil, he's really grown as a designer. I ordered so much from his fall collection. It's smart and sexy but still really cool and chill, if that makes sense.
I'm also loving what Demna Gvasalia is doing at Balenciaga. I have a few pieces from the spring collection. Those purple boots were everything, and I just had to have them. Purple is also my favorite color.
