20 Reasons I Think Kim Kardashian Is a Legit Fashion Icon

I have no doubt that what I’m about to say is going to be a very, very unpopular opinion. But luckily for me, I’ve never been the type of person to form my opinions based on whether or not they will be approved or liked by others. Also luckily for me, I happen to really think that in this case, I’m right.

Kim Kardashian has climbed her way from the rather unsavory world of sex tapes and reality television to the glamorous world of high fashion. From her days of red carpet looks that can only fairly be labeled unfortunate, Kardashian has come an awfully long way—namely, to sitting front row at shows like Givenchy and Balmain, and to wearing custom creations by legendary designers like Jean Paul Gaultier and Alber Elbaz of Lanvin. Not just anyone gets that kind of treatment—even some of her fellow celebrities who dress very, very well.

Just how Kardashian has managed to reach such sartorial heights is certainly up for debate, but in my mind, there’s no doubting her icon status. Every time she steps out, a conversation erupts in the fashion world about what she’s wearing: Love it or hate it? Is she “fashion” or is she not? Are her outfits chic or just baseline well-fitting? But I would argue that the fact that she has the power to even start such conversations—a feat not many women can claim to have achieved—in itself makes her an icon.

I have more reasons, too.
