The Designer Behind Diana Vreeland's Costume Jewelry Has Passed Away
Costume jewelry designer Kenneth Jay Lane passed away today, as WWD reports. At 85 years old, Lane leaves behind a legacy that’s perhaps best documented by the women who wore his jewels, among them Jackie Kennedy Onassis, Princess Diana, Elizabeth Taylor, Lena Horne, and famed fashion editor and more-is-more icon Diana Vreeland.
Lane launched this eponymous collection in the ’60s after working for Christian Dior and soon went on to become a go-to jeweler for major stars as well as “people who want to be noticed,” as WWD noted. To this day, the designer was still offering up statement pieces, and his collection can be found everywhere from Net-a-Porter to Saks Fifth Avenue. Furthermore, Lane documented much of his life and career in Faking It, an autobiography he released in 1996.
Our thoughts are with Lane’s family, friends, and passionate fans. Below, take a look at just a fraction of the memorable moments when some of the biggest fashion stars in the world wore Kenneth Jay Lane.
