Karl Lagerfeld Explains Why He's With Chanel for Life

Nicole Kliest

Karl Lagerfeld’s name has become ubiquitous with talent and diligent, hard work. The designer has held the reins at Chanel for over 30 years and has been with Fendi for about 50. In a recent meet-up with Lagerfeld and a Vogue editor, he explains his resiliency and dedication.

“I think I’m pretty lucky that I can do what I like best in perfect conditions. I don’t have to fight with anybody. You know my contracts with Fendi and Chanel are for life?” he revealed. “And I don’t feel tired at all. I hate slow people. Horrible.”

In the interview, he goes on to describe how he distinguishes the two brands from each other from a creative perspective, and even shares that he’s been encouraged to have his DNA tested to find out if there’s a reason he’s able to handle the workload he’s carried for so long.

Head over to British Vogue to read the excerpt, and pick up the November issue to check out the full interview.
