Juan Carlos Obando Explores the Softer Side of Architecture for F/W 15

Jessica Schiffer

The Los Angeles-based designer Juan Carlos Obando, who usually shows in New York, opted to travel to Paris instead this year, where he presented his Fall/Winter 2015 collection earlier today. The 20-look collection was inspired by one of Obando's earliest influences, the late architect Oscar Niemeyer, famous for saying, "I am not attracted to straight angles or to the straight line, hard and inflexible, created by man. I am attracted to free-flowing, sensual curves." The architect's aesthetic could be felt throughout: Fluid peplums were rendered in silk, loose dresses were cinched in only the necessary places, maxi skirts cascaded over pants, and cut-outs were given a rounded edge.
