Jennifer Aniston Pens Inspiring Letter About the Media's Treatment of Women

Erin Fitzpatrick

Jennifer Aniston is setting the record straight. The actress penned a powerful letter for Huffington Post addressing the tabloid gossip she's dealt with her entire career, including pregnancy rumors. She also discussed the problematic portrayal of women in the media.

"For the record, I am not pregnant," Aniston wrote. "What I am is fed up. I'm fed up with the sport-like scrutiny and body shaming that occurs daily under the guise of 'journalism,' the 'First Amendment' and 'celebrity news.'"

She went on to relate her experience to the way the media treats women in general. "The objectification and scrutiny we put women through is absurd and disturbing," she wrote. "The way I am portrayed by the media is simply a reflection of how we see and portray women in general, measured against some warped standard of beauty."

The letter is also chock-full of inspiring advice to help women deal with whatever criticisms they may face, whether they're famous or not. "We are complete with or without a mate, with or without a child," she said. "We get to decide for ourselves what is beautiful when it comes to our bodies." Amen to that.
