Jenna Lyons: The Color That's "Not as Flattering" on Pale People

J.Crew president and creative director Jenna Lyons is known for her impeccable style, and fashion girls everywhere follow her every bit of advice. So when she recently did a Q&A with Glamour readers, of course, we read every single one of her answers, and the style tips she covered were exceptional. In fact, one of the biggest takeaways had to do with flattering colors for pale skin tones.

When answering a question about wearing a monochrome look, something Lyons is known for, the style maven said mixing textures was important but, if your skin is on the fair side, to avoid mixing anything with blue or yellow undertones. “Blue undertones are harder to wear with other things,” she explained. “They have a tendency to go dark and grey, as opposed to going bright. Especially if you’re pale, they’re not as flattering. That’s why I walk around with a red sweater all the time in the winter!”
