This Model's TED Talk Can Change the Way You Define the "Perfect" Body

Adrianna Barrionuevo

Last month, British model Iskra Lawrence took the stage to give her first-ever TED Talk, following in the footsteps of fellow models Ashley Graham, Cameron Russell, and Geena Rocero. The body-positive champion's moving, heartfelt speech is finally out, and the 25-year-old discusses everything from body image to the importance of self-care.

"We have a problem," she opens. "The most important relationship we have in our lives is the one we have with ourselves—and we're not taught about it." Lawrence explains that learning self-care could help us reach our full potential, including pushing back against insecurities that many men and women struggle with when it comes to body image.

The emotional speech continues as Lawrence opens up about her own battles with embracing her body: "I know that when I was younger, I would look in the mirror every single day and hate what I saw." However, her perception changed dramatically when she decided to practice self-care. "I decided to use those experiences that I've had to gain a better understanding of the relationship I have with my body and myself," she says. By practicing self-care, Lawrence maintains she was able to change her life, and hopes to inspire others to do the same.
