Is L.A. the Next Fashion City? Your Favorite Fashionistas Weigh In

Tom Ford came very close to breaking the internet over the weekend when he staged his Fall 2015 ready-to-wear show in Los Angeles, rather than in one of the usual fashion capitals: New York, London, Paris and Milan. Perfectly timed to sync with Oscars weekend, it was a major coup for the designer, as his front row was lined with Hollywood royalty from Beyonce to Scarlett Johansson. Such a successful showing has many in the industry wondering if perhaps Los Angeles should be crowned the next legitimate fashion destination. As Bridget Foley writes in WWD, "By going Hollywood for a season, Ford did something different and powerful, proving that there are alternatives to the standard show approach." And with Los Angeles's already-glamorous reputation, it seems primed to continue on as the ultimate alternative.

Does the fashion world agree? Well, Eva Chen, the editor-in-chief of Lucky magazine, is certainly on board, telling Yahoo Style“I think it’s incredibly smart and business-minded of him to show right before the Oscars…L.A. is just starting to turn toward that kind of fashion city and I hope this cements its status.” The local fashion heavyweight Rachel Zoe concurs. “I couldn’t be more excited,” said the stylist. “Maybe Marc Jacobs will be next?! I hope Tom’s starting a huge trend!”

With endorsements like that, it seems safe enough to get our hopes up.
