New York Fashion Week Style

New York Fashion Week Style
For the past several weeks, fashion's cream of the crop-top editors, stylists, buyers, and more-have fielded invitations to runway shows, carefully created new outfits, and mentally prepped for their most chaotic time of year: New York Fashion Week. But while everyone's eyes will be glued to the runways, where designers will showcase their dazzling F/W 12 collections, right now we're feeling most Inspired By NYFW street style! Fashion Week means a deluge of directional dressers will descend upon the streets of Manhattan, and in the past, we've spotted some of the most inspiring ensembles on these folks.Take, for example, the cool look on The Fashion Hash's Hannah Richtman at last September's S/S 12 Fashion Week in New York: a floral dress in shades of ecru and hot pink, an army green vest, and buckle boots. Her outfit is an expert mishmash of sweet and edgy, and above all, it's comfortable enough for dashing around the city. Arriving at the Ralph Lauren S/S 12 show in New York last fall, Kristin Knox of The Clothes Whisperer also put a personal stamp on her NYFW-apropos getup with preppy pieces and statement accessories. Sporting a button-down blouse tucked into Tommy Hilfiger's high-waisted Pearl Long Straight Pants ($298) in Moonshadow Blue from the S/S 11 collection, the blogger created a striking silhouette. Knox's necklace, worn over the collar of her shirt, and her Mulberry Polly Push Lock Handbag ($1300) in Pumpkin from F/W 11 are just the kind of accents-bright, bold, and chic-you'd expect from a seasoned Fashion Week attendee.

Even if New York Fashion Week is not in the cards for you this time around, take comfort in the fabulous selections displayed in today's Inspired By story. We assembled NYFW must-haves worthy of any style-savvy lady, whether she's sitting front row at Thakoon or in front of her laptop, devouring the latest Fashion Week coverage!

1. Mikkat Market Sheer Tail Blouse ($26) in White and BaubleBar Amethyst Chains ($34)
No NYFW wardrobe is complete without a wear-anywhere button-down of some sort. While everyone relies on go-to favorites, you simply can't go wrong with Mikkat Market's sleeveless blouse. A collar and chest pockets hint at the classic elements of a standard button-down, but semi-sheer fabric and a longer hem at the back serve as fresh, contemporary details. However, the best perk of all is this pretty version's wallet-friendly price tag. For a tried-and-true trick to add pizzazz to a professional outfit, sport a statement necklace over a collared shirt a la Knox! Oversized jewelry-the chunkier the better-allows you to express your style savvy without appearing too informal. An artful tangle of chain links and massive purple gems, BaubleBar's stunner is no different and transforms a so-so outfit into a street style-worthy snap.

2. Madewell Dotted Songbird Dress ($138) in Midnight Peri
While the little black dress is always a fail-proof option, Fashion Week is prime time to spread your sartorial wings. Madewell's deep blue dress, with its whimsical dot pattern and full skirt, makes for chic daytime attire paired with a belt. But you can also take it out at night dressed up with flashy baubles and a particularly glam pair of heels.

3. J. Crew Tillary Bucket Bag ($198) in Moroccan Yellow
Add a lively burst of color to your ensemble with this bright leather purse. The geniuses at J. Crew crafted a bag perfect for any NYFW attendee: A drawstring closure allows you anytime access (for quickly stuffing business cards and party favors inside with ease), while an adjustable shoulder strap offers hands-free convenience (for Instagramming or snapping up hor d'oeuvres at well-stocked soirees). Plus, the bag's cinched bucket shape is so on-trend for spring!

4. Bite Beauty Summer Vintage Trio ($68)
Sometimes, the most brilliant finishing touch has nothing to do with your clothes and everything to do with your makeup. In fact, a strong tinted lip can make or break an outfit! Bite Beauty's handy trio, including a lipstick, lip shine, and matte pencil, infuses your pucker with vivid color and moisture. And the products work double time since each one is filled with resveratrol-a naturally occurring chemical found in red wine-which reduces fine lines and wrinkles around the lip area.

5. LeifNotes Blurred Dahlia Wide-Leg Pants ($98)
When you're feeling daunted by the chilly weather in New York City this time of year, LeifNotes' wide-leg trousers are your best bet instead of skirts and dresses. Swathed in a vibrant blossom print, these pants offer maximum coverage, a flattering silhouette, and a much-needed hint of springtime.

6. OAK Amber Circleline Sunglasses ($140) in Tortoise
Protect your eyes from the blinding flash of the cameras (and okay, sunlight too) with these unisex shades from OAK's Private Label collection. The distinctive round lenses are a tad Lennon-esque, but chic tortoise frames and a metal bridge update the specs for a modern-day tastemaker.

7. UNIF Roger That Jacket ($168) in Olive
Utilitarian pieces like UNIF's slightly distressed army jacket are versatile anytime of year, but thanks to their dress-up-or-down quality, they're especially practical for Fashion Week. Layer this jacket over a feminine dress for a tough-meets-sweet look, or pair it with fashion-forward pieces for an edgier vibe. After slipping on this military-inspired number, you'll also appreciate its undeniable comfort factor: an oversized silhouette and plenty of useful pockets.

8. Zara Wedge With Ankle Strap ($159) in White
Footwear presents a challenging conundrum during New York Fashion Week. Though navigating the city streets is far more manageable in flats, high heels are practically part of the NYFW uniform. We found a fair solution in the form of Zara's off-white shoes. Platform wedges make these modern-looking kicks easier to walk in than towering stilettos, and a chic ankle strap helps anchor your foot so you won't trip while trying to hail a cab!

9. Sarah Frances Kuhn Super Brass Deluxe Strap ($80) in Baby Pink on Baby Pink and Lomography Diana+ Novella Camera ($65)
If you ask us, true style lies in the details. Sarah Frances Kuhn seems to agree, as the former Teen Vogue Accessories Editor created a brilliant assortment of camera straps, a chic alternative to your typical DSLR's thick-and heavily branded-leash. You can even customize Kuhn's heavy-duty chains and straps with your choice of metals (gold, brass, silver) and eye-catching hues (turquoise, lemon yellow, and more). We accessorized using a brass chain woven with a pink leather cord and matching pink neck cover. And if you choose to sport such a chic strap, no ordinary camera will do now! Rarely do you spot an editor or blogger at the tents without a monster-sized one in hand. Instead of lugging around unwieldy equipment that clashes with your polished outfit, opt for this black and white Lomography cam printed with a composition notebook-style pattern. And don't worry: Just because this rendition looks pretty doesn't mean it's not highly functional. Snap away using its multiple exposures and overlapping frames, all designed to produce inspiring images of the runway or whatever else may captivate your Fashion Week fancy.-Tiffany Tse
