Scared of Prints? Here's the Masterclass on How to Wear Them

When it comes to Instagram, I am a repeat offender. I know what I like and tend to stick to the accounts I love the most. One influencer that I always go back to over and over for fashion inspiration is Nnenna Echem. The stylist and fashion editor first entered my radar a couple of years ago, and I've been hooked ever since. Why? Well, she's fearless when it comes to trying out new combinations of silhouettes or colours. But where she really shines is her ability to clash prints with bright colours like no one else. I decided to ask her what her best tips are and how she manages to pull it off every time.

1. Connect Your Colours

"When I first started to wear prints I remember that I didn’t like to mix different prints at the same time. But that was because I didn’t have a connection between the different parts of the outfit, so it didn’t look put-together. Today I can wear several prints. If the prints or patterns in your outfit don't match, then you have to make sure that the colours in your outfit do. When I say match, I mean that the colour combination should match (e.g., pink and lilac, and mint green and sky blue). You can wear a pastel-blue blazer with zebra prints with a pink leo print skirt because the colours go well together."

2. Go Outside Your Comfort Zone

"The more you experiment with colours and prints, the more you learn and discover new combinations. You should definitely try to go outside your own comfort zone when putting different colours and prints together. You will be amazed by how many good combinations there are."

3. If in Doubt, Black-and-White Zebra Print Goes With Everything

"I have a sweet spot for black-and-white zebra print because it goes really well together with bright colours. That’s a styling combination that works well for me and makes it easier to put outfits together and also makes it easier when I am shopping. If I find pants or a dress with black-and-white zebra print, then I already know how I can style it (e.g., with a bright pink/blue/purple blazer)."

4. Find Your Favourites

"I also have several favourite colour combinations, as I have experimented a lot with colours. Pink and lilac, aqua and lilac, mint green and pink, and blue and pink are among my favourites. I would say that there are no wrong combinations when it comes to colours and prints. It’s all about how you put it together."
