How to Make a Tiny Engagement Ring Look Much Bigger

Meghan Blalock

There are plenty of tricks you can use to make your engagement ring look larger once you have it on your finger—but there's an even better way to give the illusion of size while you're still shopping for the one you want. We stumbled upon this ingenious site, Rare Carat, which lets you custom-design stones and virtually try them on.

We were curious, so we tried a few different diamonds of the exact same size, half a carat, in different shapes. What we found astonished us: The emerald-cut diamond looked much larger than other shapes. When you scroll down, you'll see that all these diamonds are the same weight, and yet the round, brilliant, and heart-shaped stones look minuscule when compared to the emerald-cut stone.

Keep scrolling to see how three different diamonds of the same weight look drastically different in varying shapes!
