    Olivia Wilde

Boxy or oversized silhouettes will overwhelm a slim figure, so a fitted suit like Wilde’s is key. While we’re not suggesting you go shirtless, there’s no denying that her body-grazing Gucci ensemble was incredibly flattering at the world premiere of Rush.

If you’re self-conscious about your lower half or merely want to play with a menswear-inspired silhouette, try an elongated blazer with a mid-thigh hemline.

Although we’re quite certain the supermodel doesn’t have to worry about minimizing any part of her figure, a suit with flared pant legs is a smart choice for balancing wider hips.

Slender women can make the most of intense prints, like this bold plaid from Topshop, which can tend to bulk up other body types.

There’s nothing quite like a vertical stripe to lengthen your frame, and in a head-to-toe suit like the blogger’s Tommy Hilfiger ensemble, the effect is magnified.

The Vogue Australia editor’s Chanel skirt suit is the perfect solution for those on the petite side who are concerned that a blazer and pants combination covers up too much.

    Jenna Lyons

At the Blue Jasmine premiere, the J.Crew president/creative director provided a case study in how to pull off a men’s suit in the brand’s Ludlow Tuxedo Jacket ($525) in Navy, Ludlow Slim Tuxedo Pants ($265) in Navy, and Givenchy Canvas Print & Leather Slip On Sneakers ($495). When trying the look for yourself, ask your tailor to take the blazer in slightly at the waist, so your figure isn’t lost. Also: balance with a low-cut top and ankle-baring hem.

    Atlanta de Cadenet Taylor

Worried about overwhelming your form? Notice how de Cadenet Taylor made her suit seem less imposing at the Style Awards by wearing the jacket off her shoulders and adding a casual striped shirt.

Adding curves to a tall and narrow frame can be tricky, but at a screening of Mademoiselle C., the model’s double-breasted blazer by BLK DNM added slight volume at the hips for a more feminine shape.

A slightly cropped blazer, like the Canadian blogger’s ASOS checked version, is great for showing off a small waist and creates curves for a boyish figure.

Even shorter women can pull off a cropped trouser leg; just note how the Irish TV presenter paired her suit with a classic pump, which lengthens the leg by exposing the top of the foot.

A bright blue suit is bound to turn heads, perhaps explaining why the Brazilian blogger chose the snap-happy suit to wear with a graphic Brian Lichtenberg t-shirt, Chanel bag, and bright Miu Miu pumps at Milan Fashion Week. Since the bold look is sure to be scrutinized, make sure the fit is on point: a slim pant hem should hit at the top of the foot and the shoulder of the jacket should meet the natural edge of your shoulder.
