It seems self-explanatory that every woman needs a good cache of shorts in her closet for summer—what’s a bit more challenging is figuring out how to style those shorts in creative ways, so that they’re appropriate for multiple occasions.

    1. Top them off with a menswear-inspired piece.

    Strike an ironic balance by pairing your short shorts with a boyish button-down shirt, blazer or tux-inspired shirt. Wear with brogues or wingtip oxfords for maximum tomboy impact.

    2. Add layers of femininity.

    Wear silk, chiffon, and satin in big, billowy proportion to your shorts.  A kimono over a cami, for example, can achieve this.

    3. Wear a good pair of statement earrings.

    Let your earrings make a big statement. Keep your top simple—perhaps a plain white tee—and don't hold back in wearing your favorite dazzling earrings. Turquoise is perfect for summer!
