  • While we prefer bundling up and staying in on a rainy day, work (and life) demands that we must brave the wet weather and actually leave the house. That being said, a downpour or drizzle is no excuse to look unkempt or unstylish! Here are some must-have wardrobe pieces that can weather any storm.

  • Must-Have #1: Coated Skinny Jeans

Coated jeans have the look and feel of stretch leather, but the durability of good old denim. A shiny pair of dark blue, black, green, or maroon coated jeans will look just as chic as leather leggings and can withstand a splash or sprinkle on a rainy day. A good pair will keep their shape, and tuck nicely into a pair of rain boots.

  • Must-Have #2: Trench Coat

A crisp-fitting trench coat is one of our all time favorite outerwear pieces with a function best suited for wet weather. Opt for a camel, gray, or black version with fabric that will repel water. It should be roomy enough to fit over a sweater or blazer, but sized appropriately enough to not look like it was borrowed from your dad.

  • Must-Have #3: Classic Rain Boots

When buying a pair of serious rubber rain boots, invest in a classic color—black, hunter green, navy, or even yellow or orange—and walk confidently through puddles and mud. Your boots should be flat and knee high, and will perfectly balance the volume of your rain-friendly outerwear.

  • Must-Have #4: Wide-Brimmed Hat

A clever wide-brimmed hat can not only tame your unmanageable rainy day hair, but also shield you from the spray. Don't choose one in a precious or delicate material, but rather a fabric that can withstand a bit of wear.

  • Must-Have #5: Stylish Umbrella

Since the world can be a bit drab on such days, choose an umbrella that is bright and irreverent. A zigzag, striped, or embellished umbrella can add the right amount of optimism to your look and help stand out in a sea of boring black ones.
