While it's true we adore bags and shoes with ornamented fringe-more on that later-we often find that this textured detail really makes a statement when added to outerwear. We love how the resulting pieces can either take on a cool, western spirit or subtly bohemian vibe. As for the former, Chanel Iman channeled this look perfectly while heading to an event in Italy two months ago. The model caught our eye in a head-to-toe Dsqaured2 outfit, consisting of a denim fringe vest layered over a tailored blazer and white button-up shirt, teamed with studded leather pants, strappy sandals, and the fashion house's Wide Brim Hat ($259). We love how the after-hours ensemble manages to be both edgy and glamorous, just like Iman. Clearly a model-off-duty favorite, that same month we spotted Ruby Aldridge also sporting fringed outerwear during Paris Fashion Week, courtesy of Stockholm Streetstyle. We think her vintage brown suede jacket is perfection, and applaud her decision to keep the outerwear center stage by styling it with basic black separates. As for a more bohemian interpretation of this trend, Elle Macpherson was photographed arriving at the airport in Sydney incorporating some fringe into her airport attire via Theory's Sidoni Cardigan ($285), which she expertly paired with Christian Louboutin's Fringe Suede Boots ($1295) for a double dose of fringe that's quite stylish, don't you agree?
But if you'd like to try a less is more approach to this trend, simply go for fringed accessories a la Ashley Olsen, Kate Moss, and Anja Rubik instead! As all three ladies so aptly demonstrate, whether swinging from bags or shoes, this frayed detailing can add just the right amount texture to any look. We are particularly smitten with the anything-but-basic black Christian Louboutin Loubis Angel Fringe Clutch Bag ($1655) Olsen carried while feting the launch of said designer's new book-Christian Louboutin-at Barneys New York early last month. The frayed accent gives the bag a fun and festive look, making it the perfect finish for cool, downtown ensembles and fancy frocks alike! Of course, if you'd like to go a different route and put some swish in your step, let Moss and Rubik be your guides. While Moss opted for Christian Louboutin's beloved Fringe Suede Boots ($1295) to complete her sophisticated mix while leaving the Paris Ritz Hotel back in October, a week later Anja Rubik finished her on-the-go attire in Poland with a pair of blue suede, side-fringed Isabel Marant wedge boots, which complemented the rocker vibe of leather pants nicely.
Want to add a few fringed items to your winter wardrobe? As always, you've come to the right place, because now that you have loads of inspiration on how to wear these embellished pieces, it's time to tell you about some cool products! If you'd like to pick up a fringe jacket to give your look some earthy edge, don't hesitate to check out Diane von Furstenberg's Limora Suede-Fringe Wool-Felt Jacket ($695) or Topshop's psychedelic Tye Dye Suede Biker Jacket ($350) right away. We also adore Forever 21's Suede Fringe Jacket ($60) and Free People's Vintage Fringe Leather Jacket ($428) for those of you who are seeking outerwear with a more western vibe.
We have a few obsession-worthy accessories to discuss too! Starting with footwear, we think that Steve Madden's Badgess Boots ($200) and Zara's Flat Boot with Fringes ($189) look quite similar to the must-have styles seen at Isabel Marant. Not much of a boot girl? No worries, because this frayed detail looks chic on heels as well, like B Brian Atwood's Fringe T-Strap Sandals ($234) and Colin Stuart's Fringe Sandals ($118). Finally, if it's a fringed carrier you're after, you'll love the bohemian look of Vanessa Mooney's The Fringe Bag ($398) or the contrast of the chic chain strap of Romygold's Evan Fringe Clutch Bag ($425). We also appreciate Tylie Malbu's Jetset Olivia Fringe Clutch ($225), which can take you from day to night with ease!-Jessica Baker
