Oh jumpsuit, who would have thought that your appeal would linger for so long? And not just the ultra-casual, brightly printed rompers and playsuits that populate music festivals and trendy farmers' markets, but decidedly grown-up, sophisticated options too! In fact, these originally utilitarian, occasionally costume-y pieces have really reinvented themselves into something sleek and very stylish, as ladies like Liv Tyler, Vanessa Traina, and Rachel Zoe demonstrate. In honor of the jumpsuit's transition from kitschy cool to strikingly chic, we're spotlighting some of the most stylish iterations around, as seen on the world's most photographed and revered women!
While the jumpsuit can be a decidedly fashionable piece for evening events-and more on that in a moment-it can also look elegant or edgy for daytime too, just look at Zoe Saldana and Heidi Klum for example. Saldana was snapped just a couple of days ago in Beverly Hills wearing an effortlessly pulled together ensemble comprised of a Bird by Juicy Couture Silk Crepe de Chine Jumpsuit ($430), accessorized with strappy platform sandals by Ann Taylor (currently sold-out, but we like the Lilia Platform Buckle Pumps ($228) as a closed-toe, currently in-stock option), Burberry sunglasses, and a See by Chloe Carmen Satchel ($495) in Pony. The juxtaposition of the neutral jumpsuit and shoes with the berry bag is lovely, plus we love that the all-in-one is silk, as the fabric makes the overall outfit a bit more luxurious. While Saldana demonstrated how to do a glam version of the daytime jumpsuit, we also appreciate Heidi Klum's more androgynous take on the trend too. The model/mogul was photographed in New York earlier this summer wearing a crisply tailored Smythe blazer, NewbarK's Manu Snake Flats ($595) in Gray, NewbarK's Lauren Shoulder Bag ($940), yellow sunglasses, and a button-front tan one-piece suit. Klum loves a jumpsuit-she wears plunging or cut-out styles on the red carpet all the time-but it's nice to see her in an iteration that's not so "Hollywood" too.
In addition to the monochromatic, more casual jumpsuits we've seen on Saldana and Klum, we've also noticed a number of fashion-forward women wearing dressy versions for evening events. Some, like Liv Tyler, go for a slimmer shape; just check out the sleek black Chanel jumpsuit she wore to a Chanel party last year as reference. Though her footwear choice-Topshop's two-tone brogues-is a bit masculine, it works nicely with her otherwise feminine and bow-bedecked jumpsuit. That said, the most popular jumpsuit silhouette as of late seems to be a wide-leg style, as seen on Vanessa Traina, Rachel Zoe, and Rose Byrne. Traina was photographed at the Giambattista Valli Haute Couture show in Paris last month in a devastatingly simple, strapless Celine jumpsuit and matching Verdura cuffs. The restrained ensemble is relaxed yet refined, and a total knockout. We also adore the billowing-leg jumpsuit Rachel Zoe picked for a Chanel-hosted benefit for the Natural Resources Defense Council in Malibu earlier this summer. The star of The Rachel Zoe Project (which is returning to Bravo on September 6th, we can't wait!) was glamorous and gorgeous in a silky Stella McCartney jumpsuit, which she paired with a Chanel blazer and bag. Of course, not everyone goes for dark, solid colored jumpsuits; occasionally we see lovely ladies like Rose Byrne in printed pieces too! The actress opted for a very fresh look for her July appearance on Live with Regis & Kelly in New York when she styled Rebecca Taylor's Shades of Grey Silk Floral Jumpsuit ($375, 212.243.2600) with a white Zara blazer. The understated print works perfectly with the snowy blazer, resulting in a pitch-perfect summer look!
If you're interested in updating your wardrobe with an of-the-moment jumpsuit, you've come to the right place! Our editorial team spent ages researching the top options on the market, so you're sure to find something that works for your taste, budget, and body type! If you love Saldana's army green jumpsuit, but don't want to invest in her exact style, don't miss River Island's Military Jumpsuit ($78), which has a similar look and feel. Additionally, we like ASOS' Zip Through Jumpsuit ($61) as an alternative to Klum's relaxed, tan pick. To emulate Vanessa Traina's strapless, chic Celine jumpsuit, be sure to check out BCBGMaxAzria's Karmen Strapless Jumpsuit ($199) or the more casual Bandeau Jersey Jumpsuit ($66) from Topshop. As for some additional dressier options, we adore the Wide-Leg Silk-Satin Jumpsuit ($450) by Theyskens' Theory-it's a total classic-as well as 3.1 Phillip Lim's Silk-Crepe Jumpsuit ($450). Finally, we also found a patterned option for you, Zimmermann's Floral Jumpsuit ($350), which has a plunging neckline and pretty posy print. Whatever option you pick, we hope it "suits" you perfectly!
