One thing we especially like about this denim style is that it perfectly shows off a pair of ankle-strap shoes, which Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Pixie Geldof both aptly demonstrated. The former was snapped arriving at LAX this summer wearing an off-duty ensemble consisting of an Isabel Marant leather jacket, Chloe ankle-strap flats, and a pair of J Brand cuffed jeans. While the model/actress' outfit is a bit boyish-thanks to the combination of slouchy jeans, a tough leather jacket, and a simple gray t-shirt-the cuffed jeans really spotlight her dainty, delicate shoes, which give the overall look a nice dose of femininity. Geldof showed off a similar idea at a Ray-Ban event in London earlier this month. She picked classic staples-a blue and white striped shirt and a leopard bag-and then cuffed her dark jeans to allow her statement-making red ankle-strap sandals to take center stage.
In addition to showcasing ankle-strap heels, cuffed jeans also work well when paired with another one of the season's hot-ticket items: cozy sweaters. For example, Rihanna was snapped leaving a hotel in New York back in September in a laidback outfit consisting of a striped top, black creepers, and our jeans du jour. We love how the perennially cool songstress teamed her denim with a pair of creepers, which added a tough-girl vibe we adore. Additionally, we're smitten with the way model Frida Gustavsson interpreted today's trend, as seen on Stockholm Streetstyle. Her slouchy separates, including an oversized coral sweater and boyfriend jeans, provided the perfect canvas to show off a statement necklace and created an enviable, easygoing outfit.
While cuffed jeans are always an excellent choice for casual daytime attire, they work equally well for a night out too. Simply look to Ashley Olsen and Rachel Bilson for inspiration, as both style mavens teamed their rolled-up denim with pointy-toe heels and chic jackets to create party-ready ensembles. Olsen attended a play at the Second Stage Theatre in New York this summer wearing a blazer, top, and bag by The Row with vintage jeans and Manolo Blahnik shoes. While jeans are usually reserved for more casual affairs, Olsen effectively dressed up her pick by adding sophisticated, all-noir pieces, resulting in one au courant evening look. Bilson was on the same chic page when she attended a celebration for her December Nylon cover in Los Angeles earlier this month. She made her Goldsign Jenny Jeans ($290) in Debut red-carpet ready by adding a Vanessa Bruno jacket, The Row tee, Christian Louboutin pumps, and a Miu Miu clutch. We especially love her metallic topper, which instantly enlivened her ensemble and added just the right amount of glitz.
Are you interested in emulating these looks? We're guessing you might already have a pair of jeans to cuff, but if you don't-or you simply want new ones-fret not because we've rounded up and excellent selection! If you love the loose, casual fit of Rihanna and Huntington-Whiteley's iterations, you'll surely covet Current/Elliott's The Roller Jeans ($195), Victoria's Secret's Ex-Boyfriend Straight Leg Jeans ($70), and AG Adriano Goldschmied's The Tomboy Ag-ed Jeans ($225). Craving a slim-fitting pair a la Geldof? We think James Jeans' Sabrina Cuffed Slim Straight Jeans ($124) and Hudson's Bacara Crop Straight Cuffed Jeans ($165) in Oldmill are excellent options. Finally, if you want to emulate Olsen and Bilson's versions, we wholeheartedly recommend Paige's Jimmy Jimmy Skinny Jeans ($179) in Rebel Without A Cause and True Religion's Cameron Boyfriend Jeans ($262) in Chattanooga. Whatever pair you decide to pick up this season, we guarantee you'll be stepping out in style!-Erin Fitzpatrick
