Collars

Stepping in as the season's new statement "necklace," collars--whether they are removable additions or simply boast interesting embellishments--have made a swift and stylish transition from summer favorite to fall necessity. Already seen on the likes of Bella Heathcote, Hilary Rhoda, and the Cacharel F/W 12 runway, these unconventional neck accents are a surefire way to elevate your tried-and-true tops, dresses, and sweaters, making even your most understated pieces noteworthy anew. Whether they're printed, bejeweled, metal, or sequined, collars like these will make a wow-worthy addition to any wardrobe. Just be sure to check out today's How They Wear story for a smattering of smart styling ideas on how to wear this must-have accessory.

At the Cacharel F/W 12 show, metal-trim collars, paired with sweet, floral-print dresses and a powdery blue jumpsuit (shown above), lend the collection's '20s-influenced looks a futuristic element.

Virginie Courtin-Clarins
Taking cues from Cacharel's indisputably stylish collar and jumpsuit pairing, Virginie Courtin-Clarins was a standout at W Magazine's Generation W October issue celebration during NYFW earlier this month. The beauty heiress/tastemaker opted for a '70s-inspired one-piece, which she contrasted with stark black accents, including a sequined Peter Pan collar, Louis Vuitton bag, and strappy sandals, for a refined and sophisticated result.

Hilary Rhoda
All cameras were pointed at Hilary Rhoda at the Salvatore Ferragamo Fashion's Night Out event earlier this month, and it's easy to see why. The model accessorized her black Monika Chiang top and Salvatore Ferragamo Red Silk Beaded Skirt ($8200, 800.628.8916) with Dannijo's must-have Liliya Necklace ($656). The Swarovski crystal-encrusted necklace doubles as a Peter Pan-shaped collar, adding just the right amount of sparkle and intrigue to Rhoda's after-hours look.

Thanks to the top's square neckline, the collar remains the focal point of Heathcote's ensemble, bringing an unexpectedly cool element to her all-noir look.
