Model Off Duty
On this glorious first day of December, we must confront an inescapable truth. Despite our best efforts to ignore the signs (which means avoiding direct eye contact with our neighbors¬' faux snow decorations and snubbing the candy cane aisle at the store), the holidays are officially here once again. In other words, ¬'tis the time to go shopping, dear readers! But if the task of finding the perfect presents for all your nearest and dearest fills you with the spirit of Scrooge instead of seasonal cheer, we¬'re here to help. Starting today, we¬'re thrilled to roll out WhoWhatWear.com¬'s annual Gift Guide¬--a weeklong extravaganza packed with highly personal, totally desirable pieces for everyone on your list. We¬'re spotlighting our favorite finds for five different recipients, so be sure to check in every day! And now, with no further ado, we¬'re pleased to present our first installment of le guide: Model off Duty.
When picking out a present for a super cool, downtown dwelling, slightly tomboyish sort of gal (like the lovely Erin Wasson), it¬'s important to find no-fuss stuff that shares your giftee¬'s sensibilities. Members of the Model-Off-Duty style club don¬'t gravitate towards frilly things or uber-girly items, so we found a sturdy cuff that¬'s just as boldly beautiful as this type of girl. We also sourced a pair of no-nonsense buckle boots (for under $200!), a heartbreakingly awesome bag (for significantly more than $200, whoops!) that might be the hottest thing around, and a model-endorsed tee that anyone¬'s sure to love. Read on for the rest of our gift guide goodies and get ready for a week of wonderful present possibilities!
Little Doe Brown Full Feather Flip Out Headpiece ($325)
One of the things we adore most about today¬'s type of girl is that she has the ability to pull off interesting and exotic accessories. We think this feathered headpiece is the sort of wholly original item that will appeal to the MOD¬'s idiosyncratic tastes.
SURevolution Ridged Cuff ($225)
The second we saw this brass cuff, we knew it was made for our MOD. It¬'s a statement piece for sure, thanks to its tough-looking ridged metal and lovely worn-in patina. In short: it¬'s the ideal piece of jewelry for a modern jet-set gypsy!
Sophomore NYC Peace T-Shirt ($60)
We knew we needed to include this simple and striking shirt in our gift guide roundup because the catwalk crowd has already endorsed it. As seen on stunners like Jessica Stam, the Peace T-Shirt is an ideal tee expressing an ideal idea and a sure-to-please purchase. We can completely envision today¬'s subject wearing it with her favorite Current/Elliott Skinny Jeans ($216) or Boot Cut Jeans ($235).
Leaf and Rusher Tx Lips ($21)
MOD types are usually happy to skip makeup and other such face frivolities, but an exception can be made for this lip therapy from Leaf and Rusher. The small pot shown above is not actually gloss, as it may appear, rather it¬'s a smoothing and plumping lip product. Packed with jojoba oil, shea butter, and other beneficial ingredients (like buriti palm fruit and hops, which work as natural SPF protection), the LipTx makes for an excellent stocking stuffer!
Proenza Schouler Large Leather PS1 Bag ($1995)
Of all the purses in the world, we chose this scorcher from Proenza Schouler¬'s new handbag line because it¬'s got an insouciant style that today¬'s MOD types love. It¬'s already being carried by ladies famous for their understated chic style (think: Vanessa Traina) and would surely be a welcome addition to anyone¬'s bag collection.
Dazed & Confused Subscription ($75)
Instead of giving your pal a subscription to one of the obvious American glossies, why not surprise her with one of the industry¬'s most inspiring magazines? She¬'s sure to enjoy the British book¬'s fresh fashion coverage and gorgeous editorials, which are styled and shot by up-and-coming and established talent alike.
Seychelles Hyperspace Boots ($169.95)
A fabulous flat boot is the foundation for most MOD outfits and this buckle-embellished version will certainly provide the right style support. They¬'re perfect for stomping down city streets (or even just strolling through suburbia) and are sure to quickly become a beloved staple.
Stella McCartney Eve Giggling Underwire Bra and Briefs ($140, $65)
Leave it to McCartney to design a bra-and-drawers duo that¬'s completely sexy in an understated way. The pair is made out of a pale orange mesh and satin blend and we think the barely-there look is in keeping with our MOD¬'s minimalist tendencies. If she¬'s going to wear underwear¬--which is not a given¬--it would definitely look like this sheer set.
