Hillary & Katherine's Favorite Things For October

Fall is finally here, and with it comes a veritable cornucopia of amazing new obsessions. Some are total splurges, others can be easily justified, but one thing’s for certain: these are the things we can’t stop talking about for October.

  • From saucy stationary to an incredible monogramed clutch, here are the ten things we’re totally excited about this month!

  • It ($22) by Alexa Chung

As long-time supporters of all things Chung, we’re quite excited for her first foray into the publishing world. Her new book, It, features a hodgepodge of musings, photos, and drawings that you won’t want to miss. The book’s just as offbeat and cool as its creator and is a must-have addition for every fashionphile’s coffee table.

  • Valentino Garavani My Own Code Clutch ($1945)

Monogrammed things are our fashion kryptonite, so naturally we’re swooning for this sleek, understated clutch. Most exciting of all: Valentino boutiques will adorn the hand strap with your initials, so that everyone knows this bag is 100% yours.

  • United Bamboo 2014 Cat Calendar ($50)

Does it seem too early to think about 2014? Perhaps, but you can soften the blow by being one of the first to pick up United Bamboo’s 2014 cat calendar, which debuts on the brand’s website today. Even better: if you order it this week, the Noah Sheldon-photographed, ridiculously cute calendar ships for free. Done and done.

  • Model of the Moment: Kassi Smith

Thanks to Fashion Month, we had models on our minds, and are particularly keen on one in particular: the full-browed Kassi Smith. We recently shot the LA-based model for an upcoming campaign—watch this space—and think she’s definitely a rising star. (Our pal Jenn Camp of Le Fashion agrees!)

  • Derek Blasberg x Paperless Post Collection

Modern-day Miss Manners, best-selling author and editor, and handsome man-about-town Derek Blasberg knows a thing or two about parties and etiquette, and his new collection of cards for Paperless Post is nothing short of genius. Featuring a selection of winking, wonderful bon mots for everything from birthday invitations to thank you notes, the collection can be sent virtually or via snail mail, and is sure to be a hit. (Prices range from approximately $30 for 100 virtual cards to $185 per 100 cards with envelopes, if you go for the print version.)

  • Homeland (Showtime, Sundays at 9 p.m.)

There are only a handful of TV shows that we equally adore, and topping that list is Homeland. Season Three started this past Sunday night, and it’s already full of twisty, duplicitous plot turns galore. If you haven’t gotten hooked yet, we highly suggest downloading the first two seasons and having a good, old-fashioned TV binge. Claire Danes is a revelation—she just won another Emmy for her performance on the show—and we promise you won’t be disappointed.

  • Hunter + Rag & Bone Boots ($295)

What happens when Kate Moss’ favorite maker of wellies teams up with the Rag & Bone boys? The coolest two-tone rain boots a girl could ask for, available in both a blue/black color scheme and army green. (Note: a shorter style was also produced.)

  • Tanya Taylor

Of all the up-and-coming designers who created buzz at NYFW, there’s one we’re really keeping our eyes on: Tanya Taylor. Already worn by Moda Operandi’s Lauren Santo Domingo and Jessica Alba, Taylor’s currently-in-stores fall collection is sophisticated, with hints of a seventies vibe, and full of standout pieces, like a glimmering moto jacket.

  • L’Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Mascara ($9)

As self-proclaimed mascara mavens, we’re thrilled L’Oreal is releasing a new version of their very beloved Voluminous Mascara. The new product—Voluminous Butterfly—gives you the volume you’d expect, but a new asymmetrical wand helps emphasizes your outer corner lashes, for a “winged-out effect.”

  • Isabel Marant x H&M

The year’s most anticipated collaboration might not hit stores until next month, but thanks to recently released images from the collection’s lookbook, we’re already making our wish lists.
