One of the things we admire most about the wonderful and beautiful Rose Byrne is her incredible versatility on screen. This is, after all, a woman who can camp it up as Get Him to the Greek's obnoxious pop star Jackie Q, play the prim overachiever Helen in Bridesmaids, and allure audiences with her brilliantly manipulative performance as lawyer Ellen Parsons on Damages, which is currently in its fifth and final season. (Note: she will be starring alongside Ryan Gosling in The Place Beyond the Pines later this year.) Similar accolades can be said about Byrne on the fashion front too, where the Australian actress consistently makes directional fashion choices while staying true to her polished, ladylike aesthetic; the result is a range of ultra-chic and on-trend looks! We were wildly excited when Byrne, one of the WWW office's most beloved actresses and sartorial tastemakers, agreed to be this month's Guest Editor, a job which included everything from revealing her need-to-know beauty secret to her favorite runway looks. And that's just the tip of the iceberg! Read below to see all of Byrne's summer essentials.
Rachel Roy Tuck Sleeve Dress ($398) in Flame
It's easy to see why our GE is drawn to this bold dress by Rachel Roy; the modest, feminine cut speaks perfectly to Byrne's understated, Parisian-chic sensibilities, while the bright red hue mimics her more playful side. "What a color," Byrne says. "This dress screams summer!"
Mulberry Lily Bag with Tiger Plaque ($2000) in Tiger Hair Calf Oak
Of all the amazing handbag designers to choose from, Byrne named Mulberry as her go-to. "Mulberry has done it again!" Byrne says. "Who doesn't love some leopard to feel a bit hip and Brooklyn?" This tiger-print carrier will inject your ensembles with just the right amount of playfulness, while maintaining the chic and luxurious look we've come to love of the brand's famed Lily bag.
Girl. by Band of Outsiders Tweed Jacket ($565)
Our GE always manages to track down the coolest little jackets, so it is no surprise she named this drool-worthy tweed version from Girl. by Band Of Outsiders as her top pick for the season. While Byrne called out its cropped cut and classic shape, the rich jewel tones and metallic-like thread are also worth noting. Styling suggestion: "It's perfect with a pair of jeans," Byrne says.
Zara Tie Print Shirt with Contrasting Collar ($80)
Though Byrne professed her love for polka-dot blouses--"I have a recent love affair with all things spots because they can jazz up an outfit easily"--she also noted this silky top from Zara as one of her favorites. "It's very cool," Byrne says, and with its visually intriguing geometric print and contrast lining, we couldn't agree more!
B Brian Atwood Francoise Crystal-Detail Suede Platform Pumps ($395)
A quick look at Byrne's repertoire will tell you that the actress is a connoisseur when it comes to black heels. "I have many pumps, but invariably always end up with a simple black pump, as it's the most flattering and cool," Byrne says. Accordingly, she selected this jazzed-up style from the current B Brian Atwood collection. Black crystals embellished on the platform and heels make them ideal party shoes!
Russell Organics Rose Hip Oil ($21)
If you've ever wondered how Byrne maintains her flawless skin, we've finally got the answer: rose hip oil! An excellent choice for our GE's sensitive skin, Russell Organic's Rose Hip Oil is packed with nutrients and vitamins that help restore and moisturize the skin, while reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
TEXTILE Elizabeth and James Iggy Jeans ($198) in Heaven
Finding the right pair of jeans can be tricky, and nobody knows this better than Byrne. "Jeans are always the most difficult to buy," Byrne says. "These TEXTILE Elizabeth and James Iggy Jeans are keepers." We second that statement, thanks to their relaxed fit and perfectly worn-in wash. It's just a hunch, but we have a feeling Byrne would style them with a chic button-up and black pumps for a casual fashion fete.
Favorite Party Looks
When it comes to dressing up for a soiree, Byrne turns to the F/W 12 runways for inspiration. "It depends on the party, but Look 21 at Chanel is so chic and downtown-I would feel cool and comfortable," Byrne says. However, if the party in question was on a much bigger, fancier scale, she would definitely reach for Valentino's gorgeous Round Neck Sleeveless Gown with Multicolor Embroidery ($25,0000, available at Valentino boutiques).
Favorite Runway Look
When we asked Byrne about her favorite runway look, she surprised us with her answer: Look 39 from the Marc Jacobs F/W 12 show, which is comprised of the Berry and Dark Gray Mink Mont Blanc Hat ($6900, 212.343.1490) paired with the Berry Boucle Lame Double Breasted Jacket ($2000, 212.343.1490), Black Boucle Lame Skirt ($875, 212.343.1490), and Ivory Boucle Lame Pants ($975, 212.343.1490). "It is so theatrical, whimsical, and fabulous-it takes fashion to the fantasy where it lives," Byrne says. "I was lucky enough to see that show, and I was totally transported."
House of Lavande Made In Italy Sunset Swarovski Crystal Double Tassel Earrings ($775, 561.802.3737)
We first noticed Byrne's penchant for statement earrings at the Academy Awards earlier this year, when she expertly finished her sequin Vivienne Westwood gown with a pair of chic Chanel shoulder-grazers. Today, however, she's eager to test-drive these tassel earrings by House of Lavande, which are sure to make a glamorous accompaniment to any evening look. "Penny Lovell, my stylist, introduced me to this jewelry designer," Byrne says. "I love their aesthetic."--Jessica Baker
