At WhoWhatWear.com, we're all about celebrating the tastemakers who inspire and influence the world's wardrobe choices. But of all the sartorial stars out there, the ones who really impress us not only have high-impact personal style, but they also build business empires around it. Our October Guest Editor¬--the one and only Lauren Conrad¬--gracefully manages to do both with brilliant results. In addition to her prodigious professional career (more on that in a moment), Conrad never fails to delight with her unfailingly attractive wardrobe choices that make you, dear readers, swoon. As such, we were curious about Conrad's seasonal essentials and asked her to share them for today's story. Her picks are accessible, effortless, and always polished¬--much like our muse herself!
But before we let you luxuriate in all of Conrad's marvelous must-haves, first a word on what our Guest Editor has been up to lately. Industrious, to say the very least, she's responsible for the wildly successful L.A. Candy book series (the first two installments, L.A. Candy ($10) and Sweet Little Lies ($10), both hit #1 on The New York Times' best-sellers list), and this month is outdoing herself with two new releases: Sugar and Spice ($9), her third novel, and the fashion handbook Lauren Conrad Style ($12). Outside of the literary world, Conrad's just as busy, with projects like the LC Lauren Conrad collection, which is available exclusively at Kohl's, and is currently gearing up for a return to the small screen. That's right, for those of you who live under a rock, Conrad's returning to MTV with a new reality show centered around her professional life, but this time she's starring and producing. With all of these work responsibilities, we're not quite sure how the girl-next-door entrepreneur found time to round up her favorite things for today's Guest Editor story¬--but we're certainly glad she did!
So what's on Conrad's radar right now? First and foremost, she's smitten with Stella McCartney's understated and elegant fall collection¬--particularly the monochromatic looks. She's also always in the market for a feminine cocktail dress, whether that's the sweet Paul & Joe sheath shown above or a sophisticated long-sleeve style, like Herve Leger's Boat-Neck Bandage Dress ($1150), which was another one of her selections. As for the rest of Conrad's seasonal essentials, well, you'll just have to read on to find out. One thing's for certain: this mogulette sure knows how to pick 'em!
Cooperative Equestrian Belt ($28) in Tan
A timeless brown leather belt is an accessory staple, as the addition of one makes a dressier look feel a bit more casual. Conrad swears by this trick and has a number of options in her closet that are similar to this simple style from Cooperative. Also available in black, the belt has a perfectly antiqued buckle, which makes it a must-have basic.
LC Lauren Conrad Moto Jacket ($72)
Everyone needs a great black moto jacket in her wardrobe, which is exactly why our Guest Editor designed one for her Kohl's collection, LC Lauren Conrad. It's one of her favorite pieces from the line and she pairs it with softer, girly outfits to give them a little toughness.
Dior Miss Dior Cherie Perfume ($59)
You can tell a great deal about a person by her taste in perfume¬--and how loyal she is to it too! Conrad's pick is known for its clean, feminine combination of green tangerine, soft patchouli, and sweet strawberry leaves: no wonder she's been wearing it for years!
Stella McCartney's F/W 10 show
Of all the fall fashion shows, Stella McCartney's eponymous line is the one that claimed Conrad's heart. From feminine frocks, like the Silk-Organza Paillette-Embellished Dress ($2365), to monochromatic and minimalist ensembles, such as the mouse gray Cashmere-Blend Sweater ($755) and Cuffed Slim Pants ($735), we understand why the collection speaks to Conrad's sensibilities.
Christian Louboutin Bibi Pumps ($795)
For red carpet events, Conrad tends to eschew trendy footwear and instead opts for gorgeous solid-colored heels. Considering this, her selection of Christian Louboutin's Bibi Pumps makes perfect sense. Rather than going for the more expected black, she picked a cocoa brown hue that would work wonderfully with all of this season's neutral pieces. For a less pricey alternative for these Loubis, check out Martinez Valero's Blaine Pumps ($143) in brown suede.
Dior Cat Eye Logo Sunglasses ($295, 800.929.DIOR)
As a Southern California native, Conrad is definitely an expert when it comes to sunglasses. To protect her eyes and add a touch of vintage style to her day-to-day outfits, she reaches for these Dior cat-eye shades in a warm tortoiseshell hue.
Charley 5.0 The Basic Skinny Leggings ($98) in Sea Grass
Naturally we had to ask Conrad about her favorite pair of jeans¬--denim is king in LA, after all¬--and she answered our query with these Charley 5.0 jeggings. In addition to basic black and dark-rinse denim options, the brand also makes their signature style in a range of unexpected colors, like the Sea Grass pair shown above!
mark Get In Line Hook Up Liquid Waterproof Eyeliner ($6) in Painted Black
Conrad's signature beauty look¬--sleek cat-eye liner¬--also happens to be completely in style right now, so we were delighted she wanted to include this mark product in her roundup. We also happen to be longtime devotees of this liquid liner and can personally rave about its foolproof skinny brush and long-wear formula. Try it in Conrad's favorite noir shade or go for one of the other three colors (Cocoa Coquette is amazing too), either way, you're sure to love it.
Paul & Joe Prasline Asymmetric Wool-Crepe Dress ($575)
If you pay attention to Conrad's personal style, you know that she loves a little cocktail dress and favors these party frocks for most events. And while her picks are decidedly girly, they're never fussy or flouncy. Instead, she sticks to subtly feminine options, like this single-shoulder style with a bow accent from Paul & Joe. In addition to Conrad's exact selection, you also might like TFNC's Bow One Shoulder Chiffon Drape Dress ($76) for an equally pale alternative or BCBGeneration's One-Shoulder Belted Dress ($118) for a noir option.
Chanel Paris Shanghai Classic 2.55 Bag with Flap ($3100, 800.550.0005)
The accessory on Conrad's mind right now is none other than this classic Chanel shoulder bag. Though the shape is iconic, the fact that it's made out of army green jersey gives it an au courant twist. It would look perfect paired so many of the season's gorgeous neutrals, plus the transitional material and color will also work well into spring!
