Jason Wu Is Launching a Line Inspired by His Friends

Allyson Payer

Jason Wu is having quite an exciting week. First came his weekend nuptials that seemed to bring the entire fashion world to Tulum, Mexico. The latest big development in Wu's world is of the more sartorial sort. In one fell swoop, Wu created an Instagram account and website to announce his new project, a sister collection to his namesake brand. Coined Grey Jason Wu, the new line is the product of Wu's desire to dress his fashionable friends (i.e. Diane Kruger, Constance Jablonski, and Sofía Sanchez de Betak, among many others).

The label made the announcement with a series of original sketches on Instagram, along with telling tidbits about Wu's inspiration. He stated, "I often look to my friends for inspiration, and I created this collection for women who look for beautifully made, well-considered clothes that have a sense of whimsy and uncomplicated chic that suit their everyday lives."

The details about the brand (including price points and exact launch date) have yet to be released but Wu did give a glimpse of what to expect in terms of the offerings, saying, "I felt that there was room for a sister collection that very much addressed the needs of women who look for a beautiful, seasonless wardrobe that is neither too edgy or sweet. There is a sense of relaxed sophistication with thoughtful details that is the basis for Grey Jason Wu."

From the looks of the sketches, prepare yourself for easy, flattering silouettes that are tailor-made for the busy girl who wants to look cool but doesn't have time for fuss.

Luckily we won't have to wait long to get the chance to purchase the goods. The line is launching this spring (i.e. any day now). Scroll down to see the first Instagram posts for the new sister brand, and shop pieces from Jason Wu's current collection in the meantime!
