Why Gisele Bündchen Was Told She'd Never Be on a Magazine Cover

Erin Fitzpatrick

No one is immune to criticism—not even Gisele Bündchen, supermodel extraordinaire who has landed the fashion industry's most sought-after covers, ad campaigns, and runway gigs.

Bündchen recently chatted with People magazine and revealed the harsh feedback she faced early on in her career. "I remember some people telling me my nose was too big or my eyes were too small, that I could never be on a magazine cover," she said. "It wasn't easy to be 14 and hear that kind of criticism. It made me feel insecure."

Luckily her father had some wise words that helped her confidence. "I told my dad, and he said, 'Next time, tell them, I have a big nose and that comes with a big personality,'" she told People. "At that point I felt, if I kept working hard and giving my best, it would all work out." Considering the success of her decades-long career, to say it all worked out would certainly be an understatement.
