Its been said that simplicity is the ultimate sophistication, a phrase that's certainly embodied by the subject of today's Girl of the Month: Nora Zehetner. The stunning Texas-born actress is the sartorial equivalent of a palette-cleansing sorbet; every time she turns up on the red carpet, we feel refreshed. And while she favors clean lines and simple accessories, Zehetner's signature style never underwhelms--quite the opposite, in fact. She consistently captures our attention by choosing elegant silhouettes, wearing the right mix of neutrals and unexpected hues, and picking interestingly detailed pieces. The result is endlessly chic and definitely worth emulating, which is why Zehetner's such a perfect person to spotlight!
While Zehetner definitely works with a range of designers, she also has a few notable favorites, like Calvin Klein Collection's Francisco Costa. For example, she picked one of his simple shifts--a sleeveless taupe Silk Dress ($1095, 212.292.9000)--for a book party celebrating Elyssa Dimant's book Minimalism and Fashion late last year, and accessorized it with Calvin Klein Collection's Polished Calf Shoes ($1895, 212.292.9000) in Chalk (top left image). While the frock's color and boxy silhouette might look drab on some, it works perfectly with her complexion, plus we love the pale shoes; they make the whole look a bit more playful. Of course, Zehetner can carry pastels too, as she proved in pistachio at a party celebrating The High Line last month when she paired a pale green Calvin Klein Collection Silk Jersey Dress ($895, 212.292.9000) with a pair of dove gray booties, specifically, the Chalk Leather Heels ($895, 212.292.9000), and a Metal Box Clutch ($575, 212.292.9000). She even looks amazing in brights--in minimalist doses, of course--as she demonstrated at a charity event at Christie's in a vivid poppy Folded Silk Skirt ($695, 212.292.9000), white Stretch Jersey Top ($395, 212.292.9000), and Rose Python Tie-Up Heels ($1095, 212.292.9000), all by Calvin Klein Collection. (It's also worth noting that Zehetner is carrying a lovely Angel Jackson Chandra Clutch Large ($270), which gives her look an additional pop of color!)
Even when she strays from Francisco Costa's designs, Zehetner's look is still elegant and understated--just check out the J. Mendel Silk Crepe Dress with Detailed Bodice and A-Line Skirt ($2550, 800.J.MENDEL) she picked for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards in New York last year and you'll see what we mean! She accented this refined dress with equally stylish accessories, including a Chanel bag, Christian Louboutin heels, and Monique Pean jewelry, resulting in an all-black ensemble that's anything but basic.
With Zehetner's strictly edited wardrobe in mind, we pulled a few pieces that share her flounce-free sensibilities and interesting approach to color. We think she'd approve of these clean pieces and hope you appreciate them too!
Essie Nail Polish ($8) in Absolutely Shore
We adore the pale green Calvin Klein Collection dress Zehetner wore to an event, in part because it immediately made us think of this incredible polish from Essie's summer collection. It's a gorgeous seafoam green hue that would look equally stunning on any skin tone, making it a must-try and a must-buy!
T by Alexander Wang Silk Crepe de Chine Shirt ($190)
Structured, yet still completely soft and feminine, this olive silk shirt is the perfect neutral piece for creating a Zehetner-inspired look. We can imagine her wearing it with a sleek pencil skirt or a slim pair of cigarette pants; either way, it's decidedly cool!
Oscar de la Renta Russian Gold Plated Earrings with Caged Stone and Crystal Pave Detail ($375, 888.782.6357)
Zehetner may prefer streamlined clothing, but she does go for slightly more ornate jewelry. As such, we think she'd appreciate these earrings from Oscar de la Renta, which have old-world charm in spades and would add just a hint of femininity to a straightforward shift dress.
Forever 21 Solid Herringbone Skirt ($19.80)
The second we laid eyes on this button-front skirt, we knew we had to include it in today's story. It's a little '70s, but still simple enough for our spotlighted lady, and the color is simply fantastic.
Jenni Kayne Organza Flannel Stripe Dress ($625, 310.860.0123)
This chic, short shift dress from Jenni Kayne's Pre-Fall 11 collection should be right up Zehetner's alley. It has a body-skimming silhouette, above-the-knee hemline, and comes in a refined neutral stripe: perfect on every level!
Zara Purse with Metallic Clasp ($36)
Much like the way Zehenter doesn't like big, bulky, overwhelming clothes, she also doesn't carry monstrously huge bags. No, she likes her carryalls to be proportionally petite, hence our selection of this chain-strap purse. The pop of color and compact shape should appeal to our girl--these qualities certainly appeal to us!
DKNY Gemma Velcro Ankle Strap Sandals ($235)
Our final pick for Zehetner is actually a pick for everyone. What do we mean by that? Well, these simple, elegant, classic, affordable, versatile heeled sandals from DKNY are not only in keeping with our subject's refined sensibilities, they're also an excellent option for all to own. Certain to work with anyone's wardrobe, we suggest buying them now in burnished tan and wearing them forever--we certainly will!
