Now, when discussing Poots' approach to dressing, it's important to note her affinity for simple, ladylike pieces and, most importantly, her ability to make these items appropriately youthful by infusing them with casual and quirky elements. The resulting ensembles are always unique and definitely memorable. Case in point: the outfit she put together for the Fright Night press line at Comic Con back in July. We love that she contrasted the dressiness and feminine spirit of her black pleated midi skirt (a covetable piece from Derek Lam's S/S 11 collection) and Zara pointy-toe pumps with the more laidback vibe of a sleeveless denim top (also by Derek Lam). Poots opted for a similar smart styling trick at the One Day premiere in New York early last month when she teamed a Paul Smith black pencil skirt with American Apparel's Unisex Striped Tank ($24) and Underground's Wulfrun Leopard Print Lace-Up Creepers ($128), which give the outfit a cool, British punk look. Additionally, we approve of the way she punched up her sophisticated black and white custom-made Miu Miu dress with a pair of hot pink Prada heels at a Miu Miu party in Beverly Hills two months ago. Not only do the playful shoes liven up the understated look, but it also shows that Poots isn't afraid to experiment with bold colors.
Though our leading lady often prefers a minimalist look, she's definitely no stranger to incorporating a few layers, as well as some on-trend accessories. Take the ensemble she put together for the The Umbrellas of Cherbourg press night in London earlier this year, for example. Poots looked oh-so-stylish in a black blazer worn over a casual gray tee and slim midi skirt. But it was her brown vintage hat, Church's oxfords, and structured satchel that made this a noteworthy outfit in our book.
With Poots' outfit selections in mind, we've put together a pretty fabulous roundup of products for your consideration! From a drool-inducing pencil skirt to a pretty lace top, we think we've nailed our GOTM's incredibly cool style and hope you agree!
Pour La Victoire Bordeaux Medium Bag ($345) in Alligator
Shoulder bags and structured satchels seem to be our GOTM's thing, which is why we've turned to one of our favorite brand's, Pour La Victoire, to find a spot-on mix of the two. We swoon for the Bordeaux Medium Bag, thanks to its slightly structured top-handle shape and black and white speckled print. Not only will it store all your daily essentials and more, but it's also a chic carrier that can be paired with practically everything in your closet. Consider this your go-to fall handbag.
Reiss Harriman Leather Trim Trilby Hat ($95) in Tan
In our opinion, you can never have too many hats, especially for your fall wardrobe. And while there are a plethora of shapes and styles to choose from this season, we're currently coveting Reiss' Harriman Leather Trim Trilby Hat, and couldn't help but think it might be perfect for our GOTM too. We're smitten with its warm camel hue, which would work well with a multitude of looks, and think the leather trim gives it a luxurious finish. And while Poots' vintage pick is definitely a noteworthy snag, we can imagine her wearing this topper to her next fashion soiree!
Lover Denim Modernist Shirt ($265, available mid-September) in Mid Blue
Our next selection was a no-brainer considering the following: 1) we are longtime admirers of the brand Lover and 2) this incredibly chic denim top is a spot-on alternative to the Derek Lam version Poots wore! We love its clean and easy look, which also happens to be a big denim trend happening right now, and we think it would look ultra-stylish worn with a pair of high-waisted leather shorts or wide-leg jeans.
M·A·C Penultimate Brow Marker ($17.50)
We love Poots' au natural beauty look, and are particularly fond of those staple dark brows! Hence, the inclusion of today's beauty product: MAC's amazing Penultimate Brow Marker. We're total suckers for this must-own product for a few reasons, like its pen-like tip, which makes coloring and styling your brows an easy task! Plus, the marker's smooth formula dries quickly and has a long-lasting formula-need we say more?
J. Crew Mixed-Media Pencil Skirt ($345, 800.562.0258) in Heather Grey
Seeing as Poots is a fan of longer hemlines and ladylike silhouettes, our number one priority for today's story was hunting down the perfect skirt. And it's safe to say we struck gold with J. Crew's Mixed-Media Pencil Skirt! Not only does its refined, sophisticated shape speak to our GOTM's feminine sensibilities, but we're positive she'd also approve of the intriguing mix of leather and wool, which gives the skirt a unique and modern look that can work for both day and evening events. We suggest styling it with a crewneck sweater or ruffled blouse for an on-trend fall look.
Walter Steiger Outrance Shoes ($995, 212.826.7171)
Whether it features a playful leopard print or a vivid hue, we've noted Poots sporting some pretty fabulous standout footwear recently. That said, we're mad about Walter Steiger's Outrance shoes think our GOTM would enjoy them too! A medley of creepers and oxfords, these chunky lace-ups with gold stud detailing are the perfect way to add a hint of punk rock attitude into your wardrobe this season. Available later this month, we highly recommend pre-ordering a pair today!
Imitation Kiki Lace Tunic ($280) in White
There's no doubt in our minds that Poots would be drawn to this white lace tunic. Its delicate and feminine detailing alone is enough to make it a must-have item! Whether you contrast it with your edgier pieces or style it a la Poots (tucked into a high-waisted skirt and with bright heels), it can be incorporated into your wardrobe in a number of interesting ways.-Jessica Baker
