Your Who What Wear editors have never claimed to be model scouts, but we do know a fresh-faced beauty on the rise when we see one! Case in point: the truly captivating British stunner, Cara Delevingne. Now if you're anything like us, you spend a considerable amount of time drooling over Burberry Prorsum's S/S 11 ad campaign and browsing the latest clothing items on ASOS.com, which means you're probably familiar with Delevingne's staple dark brows, blonde tresses, and gorgeous blue eyes. But in addition to her noteworthy features, this British model/actress also has an incredibly cool sense of style, just like her sister Poppy Delevingne, which is precisely why she's the perfect subject for today's newly revamped installment of Girl of the Month.
One of the things we like best about Delevingne's on-trend, off-duty mix is her ability to seamlessly combine feminine wardrobe staples with edgy essentials. Whether she's teaming a classic trench coat with sleek leather pants, accessorizing a flirty frock with a studded belt, or finishing a dressy look with combat boots, our GOTM consistently infuses her polished ensembles with a relaxed, tough-girl energy. So with that in mind, we rounded up a handful of inspired products--including a must-have trench with contrasting leather sleeves, a boldly striped frock, and a marvelous pair of diamond-shaped studs--to help you emulate Develingne's individualist sartorial sensibilities. Hope you enjoy!
Topshop Premium Leather Arm Trench ($260)
We are absolutely mad about this trench by Topshop. For starters, the contrasting leather sleeves give the classic coat a cool, updated look, which would undoubtedly spark the interest of our GOTM. Plus, it's a spot-on alternative to the amazing Burberry Prorsum iteration seen on the spring runway! We highly recommend you snag one today before it's too late!
Kate Spade Essex Small Scout Handbag ($295) in Orange
When we spotted this adorable messenger by Kate Spade, it was love at first sight. Thanks to its petite size, it's an ideal carrier for the girl on the go, and the electric orange hue is perfect in keeping with spring's ultra-bright color palette. If orange isn't your favorite color, that's no problem because it comes in three additional hues, including a playful citrus yellow and hot pink. We suggest styling it with a contrasting neon-colored dress for a standout ensemble or use it to liven up a neutral look.
ASOS Cotton Bib Sleeveless Shirt ($45)
A white blouse is an essential wardrobe staple, so we're always on the lookout for a modern take on this classic piece. Happily, we came across this shirt by ASOS, which looks quite similar to the one Delevingne wore to the Alice by Temperley first anniversary celebration in London late last year (above, far right), thanks to the intriguing, angled bib on the front and back.
In God We Trust Cut Out Diamond Studs ($80)
Delevingne isn't one for layering on lots of flashy jewelry, so instead of selecting a pair of dangling earrings or a statement ring, we thought these tiny diamond-shaped studs would be the perfect finish to her cool-girl ensembles. We're positive she'd appreciate their great punk rock vibe, and we think they would look superb worn with a flirty frock this spring.
Current/Elliott Liquid Leather Skinny Pants ($220)
Though we don't generally recommend a pair of leather pants on a hot summer day, it's hard for us to resist these sleek skinnies by Current/Elliott. We think Delevingne would approve of them too; just be sure to follow her lead, and juxtapose their super-slim fit and tough, bikeresque vibe with a feminine blouse.
Casio Dual Time Metal Watch ($78) in Gold
Delevingne often keeps her accessories minimal, selecting just a few pieces of jewelry or none at all. Accordingly, we thought this classic gold watch by Casio would be the perfect, fuss-free alternative to a stack of bangles. It has a simple, understated design yet will still bring a sense of luxury and elegance to any look.
Isabel Marant Striped Baseball Jersey Grady Dress ($455, 212.219.2284)
Every season we find ourselves coveting a ton of pieces from Isabel Marant's latest collection. While fall had us head-over-heels for the designer's cropped trousers and bow-bedecked pumps, this season we're dying to get our hands on this rugby-striped dress. The frock is feminine, but because the bold black stripes tone down the sweet bubblegum pink hue, it doesn't feel overly girly. To fully achieve the look Delevingne put together for a Fashion's Night Out party late last year (above, second from right), we suggest styling this dress with a pair of combat boots.
Burberry Prorsum Platform Ankle Boots ($795)
These killer ankle booties are both chic and edgy, which is why we're not surprised to see that our GOTM already owns a pair! The contrasting patent leather and rubber pointed-toe trim give the shoes a modern look. And while Delevingne opted to wear them with slim leather pants and a gabardine trench, we also think they would look amazing teamed with a fitted dress for a girl's night out.--Jessica Baker
