Ashley Madekwe

Ashley Madekwe
Ashley Madekwe may play an impeccably attired party planner on the hit TV show Revenge, but not all aspects of her character are an act! In real life, the London-born actress is a true lover of fashion (she even helps style her character on the show) and possesses a knack for polished outfits with a fresh, youthful twist. To be perfectly honest (as the characters on Revenge rarely are), even before the talented Madekwe burst onto the Hollywood scene,we were already devoted followers of her personal style blog, Ring My Bell. Whether she's snapped in a casual getup for her blog or in a dressier ensemble for a movie premiere, we always eagerly anticipate what our Girl of the Month will wear, and after reading today's story, we're certain you will too!

On The Red Carpet
Madekwe often turns up at red carpet events looking put-together, yet she always manages to add an unexpected element to her outfits via a surprising pop of color or an edgy accessory. Take, for example, the actress' look at a Forevermark and InStyle event back in January (center image). Madekwe styled Topshop's wallpaper-print ombre dress with the label's brightly colored heels, both of which are sadly no longer available. While most would have opted for a pair of neutral shoes with the vibrant, print-heavy dress, Madekwe's bold choice (in the form of a sleek green stilettos with a gold ankle-tie) makes a truly fashionable statement! Though the rest of her look is appropriately pared-down, her chunky, menswear-inspired Michael Kors MK5384 Watch ($250) in Gold balances out the feminine frock perfectly.

We also admire how Madekwe makes casual pieces look suitably fashion-forward for dressier events. At the Los Angeles premiere of The Vow in early February (top right), Madekwe sported a basic getup in Loft's Colorblock Stripe Polo Top ($30) in Fresh Navy and dark skinny jeans. But the addition of her beloved Topshop heels, plus a swipe of bright fuchsia lipstick, makes a chic finishing touch and elevates her outfit so it's slightly more formal. While Madekwe relied on a bold beauty look to accent that particular ensemble, at TV Guide's Hot List party in Los Angeles last November, she chose Jil Sander's yellow clutch to punch up her outfit (bottom right). Though Madekwe stuck to a classic dressing formula for the event, teaming a long-sleeved top with a mini to flash just the right amount of skin, she chose unique pieces for memorable results, including Zara's Shirt With Applique On Collar ($80), Viparo's Pleated Stretch Waist Lambskin Leather Skirt ($195) in Purple, and Dolce Vita's Jemma Platform Boots ($80) in Black.

If you're mad for Madekwe's look, we gathered a number of fun yet sophisticated pieces that channel the Revenge actress' style. All you have to do is peruse our picks, from a heavy gold watch to a printed tee dress, and shop away!

Get Her Look
Nixon The Divvy ($200) in All Gold
It hasn't escaped our notice that Madekwe's quite attached to her gold watch and wears it to nearly every event, so if you want to emulate the actress' cool style, you'll want one of your own! We suggest Nixon's streamlined rendition, which features a classic shape and numberless face that will never go out of style. Because this minimalist gold watch pairs easily with any outfit, it's sure to become one of your go-to accessories.

Zara Shirt With Applique On Collar ($80)
We believe every style savant should own a white silk blouse, since it's easily dressed up or down. But what makes Zara's button-down stand out is its silver-tipped collar. The appliques infuse the shirt with a little bit of edge, making it appropriate for your 9-to-5 and a night out.

Thakoon for NARS Nail Polish ($18) in Amchoor
One of the things we appreciate most about Madekwe's style sensibility is how she fearlessly infuses each outfit with a splash of color. That's why we selected Thakoon for NARS' nail shade as one of our GOTM's picks! The eye-catching, brilliant yellow hue, part of NARS and Thakoon's limited-edition collaboration, is inspired by the array of colors found in a typical Indian spice market. Even if you tend to stick to a palette of neutrals, blacks, and grays, you can still channel Madekwe's playful sense of style by painting your nails with this lemon lacquer.

Made In Kind Photofrond Tee Dress ($268) in Multi
B Since boldly patterned pieces are another one of Madekwe's must-haves, we thought it only appropriate to include Made In Kind's cool, modern frock in our roundup. The tee dress features a photographic flora print, which is then silkscreened with stripes, but a clean, simple silhouette balances out the busy motif. The result is a striking, high-contrast number that we envision Madekwe pulling off with ankle boots and a standout clutch.

J. Crew Café Capri in Geranium Lace ($148) in Bohemian Red
You may not think a pair of red floral lace pants is particularly versatile, but J. Crew's capris just might prove you wrong! The pants are both fanciful and functional, combining a tailored, easy-to-wear silhouette with a delightfully feminine fabrication. That's precisely why we think Madekwe would snag this pair, as our GOTM favors pieces that are on-trend and stylish, yet still wearable. Team the pants with a solid white t-shirt and chunky gold jewelry for an effortlessly elegant look!

H&M Metallic Skirt ($30)
When you need to assemble a party-perfect look, we suggest slipping into H&M's metallic silver skirt. Just take a cue from Madekwe and balance out the mini's full proportions with a button-down blouse. Not only does the glitzy skirt lend a touch of glamour to any outfit, its wallet-friendly price tag is a major plus too!

Mikkat Market Blue Braided Clutch ($44)
To achieve an instant Madekwe-esque vibe, add a burst of color to your ensemble with Mikkat Market's bright blue clutch. Though it's certainly pretty on the outside, the petite purse features two convenient details: plenty of interior compartments for easy organization and, should you desire a hands-free evening, an attachable shoulder strap!

Charles David Paradox Heels ($230) in Black-Combo
We have a hunch that Madekwe, with her affinity for outstanding accessories, would adore Charles David's multicolored cutout sandals. Whether they're teamed with jeans for a casual date night look or a fun mini dress for a dressier event, these geometric heels are a fabulous footwear choice!--Tiffany Tse
