Anyone can judge a pair of leggings by how they look. And in most cases we do—if we like what we see in the mirror, we’ll probably step out the door in them. But in honor of Gap’s latest athletic wear launch, we’ve gotten the inside scoop on the exact detail to look for in your workout pants, according to one of the ultimate critics.

The mall brand is teaming up with Tanisha Scott and Jonny Roxx, Drake’s choreographer and trainer, respectively, for its latest launch. And we took the opportunity to ask Scott—the creative behind the dance moves you’ve seen from Rihanna and Beyoncé—to weigh in on the one pair of leggings she trusts for street style and sweating. Her response: “compression pants.”

Compression aims to do exactly what you’d suspect: provide a tight fit that’s intended to promote blood circulation, which, in turn, might help more oxygen flow to your working muscles. And considering this piece of style advice comes right from a pro, we’ll take it. As for the one athletic trend this professional dancer can’t get behind? “Sneaker wedges,” she says. “They are actually dangerous for your ankles.”
