The Trend You Should Be Wearing This Season

We know the recent Great Gatsby craze has simmered down, but for some reason, we’re still feeling the Daisy Buchanan aftershock. In the spirit of the ‘20s heroine, this holiday season we’re swapping out our sequins for a more movable embellishment: fringe!

  • Don’t worry, you can make this trend as standout or subtle as you please. To illustrate our point, we’ve gathered 10 fabulous fringe ensembles you can try for your next holiday fête. Don’t forget to shop our favorite fringed pieces, too!

    Olivia Palermo

The second we spotted Palermo in this perfectly concocted fringe look, we had to share. Her Willow Angle Cut Fringe Skirt ($495) shared the spotlight with a Fendi Bagquette Striped Mink Fur Bag ($7200) and red Aquazzura Beverly Hills Lace-Up Sandals ($745) to create a sartorially admirable ensemble.

    Emilia Clarke

We’re always game for a winter white look, which is why the Jason Wu Resort 2014 dress Clarke recently wore to the Chateau Marmont left us with dropped jaws. We especially enjoy how she chose to accent the white with black strappy sandals, red nail polish, and a metallic clutch.

Jazz up an all-black ensemble by experimenting with multiple textures like fringe and wool. The results: sophistication with a touch of unexpected playfulness!

It’s always been an ambition of ours to pull off a gown in broad daylight, and we have to admit, Qin nailed it. If you share a similar goal, follow her lead and choose one that’s partly fringed, and wear your hair straight and simple.

If you’re going for a full-fringed gown, take inspiration from Vikander in her Barbara Casasola Long Dress ($2115) at The Railway Man premiere in Toronto, and balance the high-impact look with a slicked-back ponytail.

This ensemble is everything we’ve been looking for. Some parts Parisian, other parts flamenco, and all parts chic. The ingredients are simple, really. Grab a black, fringe skirt, and throw your favorite striped shirt on top. Polish the look with a brightly colored clutch and a metal bracelet.

We can always count on the Dries Van Noten runway to tell us what the next big texture will be. When this striped, fringe skirt shook down the catwalk, we knew it’d only be a matter of time before it was all over the streets. Lakicevic paired hers with an American College jacket, a red Saint Laurent Betty Bag ($1550), and Céline heels.

    Hanne Gaby Odiele

If a fringe dress feels overwhelming, we suggest you try a fringe blouse à la Odiele. The model wore a Derek Lam S/S 14 blouse and pants to the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Celebration in New York last month. Fun fact: she wore the same look she wore in the runway show. A truly inspired outfit!

  • Nicole Richie

    Nicole Richie

We’re suckers for a statement piece of any variety, and this House of Harlow Bordeaux Jude Clutch ($295) is simply no exception. Richie carried the fringed piece from her collection at the American Music Awards last month, punctuated with tomato red nails.

  • Gwen Stefani

    Gwen Stefani

All eyes were on the newly pregnant singer when she arrived at the Inaugural Gala of the Wallis Annenberg Center For Performing Arts in a head-to-toe fringe Salvatore Ferragamo Resort 2012 dress. She complemented the gunmetal look with a metallic Salvatore Ferragamo clutch, and a Jennifer Fisher Screw Cuff ($2375).

  • Moschino Cheap & Chic

    Long Sleeve Top ($472)

  • House of Harlow 1960

Jude Clutch As Seen In Life & Style ($275)

  • Topshop

    Velvet Fringe Tunic ($76)
