Are These Shoes the New French-Girl Wedding Trend?

Allyson Payer

From what we've heard, the French do weddings a bit differently than we do in the U.S. Generally speaking, it's a considerably more laid-back affair, and that, naturally, translates to the bride's wardrobe as well. As Parisian bridal designer Laure de Sagazan explained to Vogue, "French brides love the idea of being unique and a bit offbeat." Which is why it's not surprising that their footwear choices can be a bit unconventional as well (e.g., these oxford flats).

One of the shoe brands that every French girl has in her closet it is actually a Spanish one—Castañer. The brand's affordable espadrilles are stocked by a slew of luxury e-tailers, including Matchesfashion.com, Shopbop, Net-a-Porter, and Farfetch, and they've become the trademark summer shoe of stylish French girls like Jeanne Damas and Anne-Laure Mais (and a slew of non-Parisian cool girls like Alexa Chung and Leandra Medine). So what does this have to do with weddings, you ask? To celebrate the brand's 90th anniversary, it's just released its first-ever collection of bridal espadrilles, which Vogue Paris was quick to pick up on.

The collection is filled with wedding-ready blush, cream, and metallic hues and special details like velvet and lurex ribbons to tie around the bride's ankles. Aside from being comfortable and wallet-friendly, perhaps the best thing about these French girl–approved wedding shoes is that they can be worn again and again.

Keep scrolling to shop our favorites from the espadrilles collection we're predicting every French bride-to-be will want to wear on their wedding day.
