Did Kendall Jenner Just Elect This to Be the New It Sneaker Brand?
We need to talk about Kendall Jenner's look in NYC last night. After an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, she kept her '90s-inspired Chanel skirt suit on but made a couple adjustments to her look post-show—she threw on a glamorous fur coat and swapped out her nude pumps for a pair of more Jenner-esque sneakers. But they weren't her usual Vans or Adidas sneakers. They were another '90s throwback brand that may not be on your radar just yet: Fila. Jenner's kicks are actually a men's style (which is nearly sold out), from the brand's recent collaboration with Russian streetwear designer Gosha Rubchinskiy. (Baja East also recently collaborated with Fila—check out the pink slides that came of it.)
Given that seemingly every '90s brand has made a return to the street as of late, we wouldn't be at all surprised if the Italian brand was on deck to be the next It sneakers. Not only that, although you could say a Kendall Jenner endorsement is reason enough for a sneaker brand to be the next thing, Footwear News reported last fall that Fila had seen over-100% revenue growth year over year since they began focusing on their retro-inspired heritage collection back in 2013. Time will tell, but we think we'll be seeing a lot more pairs of Fila sneakers in the near future.
