Milan Fashion Week

Milan Fashion Week
Milan always knows the way to our hearts, whether it's through our stomach (we're suckers for risotto, prosciutto, and wine) or through our eyes (looking at all the awe-inspiring Italian fashion)! Speaking of the latter, Milan Fashion Week turned out tons of thrilling runway looks, from Giorgio Armani's pink boudoir collection to Dolce & Gabanna's feminine-masculine mix to Miuccia Prada's innocent ladies, but those weren't the only memorable ensembles we spotted! There were also loads of stylish attendees--including some well-known faces (Katie Holmes and M.I.A.), industry insiders (Anna Wintour and Anna Dello Russo), and a few of Italy's most inspiring ladies (Margherita Missoni and Delfina Delettrez Fendi)--all of whom are featured in today's Fashion Scene story. We're mad about all of the featured looks, but please tell us which MFW tastemaker tops your best-dressed list!

WHO: Bianca Balti
WHAT: Taking a break from the shows to attend the opening of the Mario Ybarra exhibition at Cardi Black Box Gallery on Saturday.
WEAR: Italian model Bianca Balti gave us an excellent example of how to work a biker-chic look into our daily routine via the outfit she wore to the Mario Ybarra exhibition. Balti paired a light-wash denim vest with a white tee, dark jeans, and workmen boots. She finished her off-duty look with a luxurious fur coat, adding a tough of glamour to her tough-girl ensemble.

WHO: Chanel Iman
WHAT: Feting the launch of the special edition 500 by Gucci car on Wednesday.
WEAR: Chanel Iman certainly enjoys a high-glam look. Just two weeks ago she turned up in an old-Hollywood-inspired ensemble for the Michael Kors NYFW party, and now she's channeling the late seventies--a look that is equally noteworthy in our opinion! The gorgeous model wore head-to-toe Gucci S/S 11--the Silk Raso Front Strap Dress ($2350, 800.456.7663) and Python Overlapped Belt ($990) to celebrate the fashion house's collaboration with luxury automotive brand Fiat to create the special edition 500 by Gucci car. The frock's intense blocks of color and sultry cut make for a standout look that's impossible ignore.

WHO: Abbey Lee Kershaw
WHAT: Celebrating the launch of 500 by Gucci last Wednesday.
WEAR: The always captivating Abbey Lee Kershaw wowed us with the all-noir ensemble she wore to the 500 by Gucci launch party. The model selected pieces from the fashion house's S/S 11 collection, including the to-die-for Suede Jacket with Fringe Sleeves ($8500, 800.456.7663), Black Fine Viscose Round Neck Tank ($995, 800.456.7663), and Crepe Satin Cropped Jodhpur Pants ($1900, 800.456.7663). Subtle gold accents from her jewelry and Gucci 1973 Small Shoulder Bag ($760, 800.456.7663) in Black Suede liven up her black-on-black ensemble for a shining finish.

WHO: M.I.A.
WHAT: Photographed between shows on Sunday.
WEAR: Eye-popping color is the name of the game this season and from the looks of the Milan Fashion Week circuit, just about everyone is playing! We're particularly fond of the way M.I.A.--seen here sporting amazing blonde locks--addressed this ultra-bright outfit idea, selecting a turquoise feather-trimmed dress and electric orange clutch. In addition to her shocking color combo, we appreciate the way she juxtaposed the frock's femininity with a utilitarian Acne parka jacket for an unexpected, yet cool, finish.

WHO: Delfina Delettrez Fendi
WHAT: Checking out the Fendi F/W 11 show on Sunday.
WEAR: Living in the shadow of such a recognizable last name can be difficult, but Delfina Delettrez Fendi has certainly proven herself with the launch of her much-lauded jewelry collection in 2009. We are impressed with her talent and equally dazzled by her sartorial sensibilities, especially at the Fendi show in Milan. The jewelry designer paired the Blue and Red Ayers Striped Skirt ($4940, 212.759.4646)--from the fashion house's S/S 11 collection--with a long fur coat from the F/W 10 collection, a vintage sweater, and Yves Saint Laurent platforms for an eclectic and undeniably stylish outfit. Delettrez Fendi also accessorized her look with the covetable Fendi Crocodile Silvana Handbag ($8160, 212.759.4646) --a perfect finishing touch!

WHO: Katie Holmes
WHAT: Spotted front row at the MaxMara F/W 11 show last Thursday.
WEAR: We love a slinky, '70s-inspired jumpsuit for spring, so we were thrilled to find Katie Holmes in a chocolate brown version from MaxMara's S/S 11 collection. The actress paired the Silk Jumpsuit ($925, 212.879.6100) with the Pony Hair Pumps ($545,212.879.6100), from the fashion house's F/W 11 collection, and kept her accessories and beauty look minimal, resulting in an elegant final look.

WHO: Anna Wintour
WHAT: Photographed at the Milano Loves Fashion event last Wednesday.
WEAR: We can only imagine how hectic fashion season is for Anna Wintour, but the perennially chic Editor-in-Chief of Vogue took time out of her packed schedule to attend the Milano Loves Fashion event last week, featuring a concert by Duran Duran. Wintour wore a gold statement necklace over a simple black top, and kept warm with a long fur coat. And though it's not visible in the above image, it's also worth noting that she was also wearing a bold orange and black striped Prada skirt from the S/S 11 collection. Apparently Wintour and Anna Dello Russo are on the same chic page...

WHO: Anna Dello Russo
WHAT: Spotted at the Etro F/W 11 show last Friday.
WEAR: Never one to shy away from an exuberant print or vibrant color palette, Vogue Japan's Editor-At-Large Anna Dello Russo appropriately turned up in one of Miuccia Prada's wonderfully bold designs from the S/S 11 collection--specifically, the Arancio Denim Colona Strapless Dress ($1695, available at Prada stores nationwide). The frock certainly evokes a playful spirit, thanks to its intriguing cherub print, orange and black stripes, and ruffled hemline. Additionally, we like that Dello Russo incorporated Prada's Swing Sunglass ($245) and Stone Encrusted Clutch ($2100) into her outfit, giving it an extra dollop of her signature high-drama flair.

WHO: Eugenie Niarchos and Margherita Missoni
WHAT: Attending the Missoni F/W 11 show on Sunday.
WEAR: Of course our MFW coverage wouldn't be complete with a nod to one of our favorite directional duos: Eugenie Niarchos and Margherita Missoni! The stylish pair was snapped together at the Missoni show, both in darling pieces from the brand's F/W 11 collection. Missoni opted for a quirky look, wearing the patchwork snakeskin jacket with a pink velvet maxi dress with knit details and biker boots, while Niarchos went for a more refined and youthful ensemble, styling a floral mini dress and thick-knit sweater--from the fashion houses's commercial collection--with black lace-up Azzedine Alaia booties.

WHO: Giovanna Battaglia
WHAT: Arriving to the Dolce & Gabbana F/W 11 show last Wednesday.
WEAR: As Fashion Editor of L'Uomo Vogue and a former model for Dolce & Gabbana, it's safe to say that Giovanna Battaglia knows a thing or two about style. Her outfit at the Dolce & Gabbana show particularly enthralled us, where she opted to wear a floral ensemble by the Italian designer duo, offset by a brown turtleneck and tights. Giovanna finalized her outfit with the Fendi Silvana Bag in Red and Pequin ($1870) and Armani shoes, resulting in a perfect on-the-go look for a true fashion maven.

WHO: Elisa Sednaoui
WHAT: Spotted outside the Giorgio Armani F/W 11 show on Monday.
WEAR: We are clearly crazy about what our favorite models don when they're not on duty, especially when they look like Elisa Sednaoui. She stood out from the crowd at the Giorgio Armani show in a pair of satiny midnight blue pants--from the designer's S/S 11 collection--that looked striking against an otherwise all-black ensemble. The willowy Rome-born model finished off the look with a black tee and blazer layered underneath a sumptuous velvet coat and t-strap heels, all by the famed Italian designer. We love how she combined relaxed, fluid pieces to create an elegantly easygoing look.--Jessica Baker, with additional reporting by Erin Fitzpatrick
