What are some key pieces for fall that will still be on-trend next spring?

Just judging from what we saw at New York Fashion Week, there are tons of things you can buy now that will still be relevant and current well into 2013. Must-Buy #1: Lightweight Leather Jason Wu showed lots of ladylike leather options on his S/S 13 runway, so take a tip from the designer and look for pants, skirts, tops, and dresses in this must-have material. Must-Buy #2: Ankle-Strap Shoes Fall's barely-there must-have heel is just as strong this spring (see Jason Wu, again, and Peter Som). Basic black is always a good option, but don't be afraid to go for a little color too! Must-Buy #3: Sporty Stripes It seemed like everyone showed stripes for spring; just reference Proenza Schouler, Michael Kors, and Marc Jacobs to see what we mean. This sporty pattern is currently cool too, so feel free to invest in a bold long-sleeve top; side-stripe pants or jeans would work too! Must-Buy #4: Chambray As seen at 3.1 Phillip Lim, chambray pieces are holding steady for spring. Look for shirting or dresses now, then patchwork styles, as well as shorts and pants next year. Must-Buy #5: Full Skirts We loved the full skirts in Rag & Bone's S/S 13 collection, and think this piece is essential for fall. Whether it's color-blocked, quilted, or pleated, you can style it with booties, crew-neck sweaters, and tights now, then break out your bare legs when the weather warms up!
