There are so many jean trends, but I'm interested in buying the essentials. What
When it comes to "must-have" jeans, always go for what's right on your body, not just what's right on trend. (Flattering jeans are always in style!) While we appreciate color, print, and all of the fun things happening in denim right now, we also love indigo denim and think every girl should have a variety of blue jeans in her closet. Here are three styles to explore! Must-Have #1: ankle-length skinny jean in a dark wash. Whether it's a designer splurge or an affordable essential, this silhouette is a new classic. Styling notes: hem them to hit approximately one-inch above the top of your anklebone and look for a snug pair with some stretch. Dark skinnies are versatile and can be worn in so many ways, but we love them styled with a plaid shirt (yellow is cute for summer, bordeaux and blue for fall), some chunky gold chains (a double row perhaps, or something slim and longer), and a heavy-on-the-foot bootie! Must-Have #2: slouchy boyfriend jean in a worn-in wash. Obviously we love our own version of the boyfriend jean, but lots of brands make cute versions now. Styling notes: these relaxed jeans should hang low on the hips-don't buy them too small-and the slightly tapered ends should be rolled to above the ankle. We fancy ourselves boyfriend jean connoisseurs and are always creating fun new ways to wear them, like paired with '50s-inspired, ladylike duds. Try them with a shrunken sweater or girly collared blouse, cap-toe pumps, and pearl earrings. Must-Have #3: bell or boot-cut jean in a medium to dark wash. Look for clean-meaning: no distressing-pair with a slight flare or a more pronounced bell, depending on what is more flattering on your body. Styling notes: your jeans should be snug through the upper hip and thigh. Bells in particular look best with a platform; make sure the hem just grazes the ground in back, but shows a smidge of your shoe in front. Instead of wearing flared jeans with '70s boho pieces, offset a bell-bottom with an otherwise totally preppy look-it's much less expected! For example, go for a classic, collegiate, boyish blazer (try a stripe stripe or a tweed) over a preppy staple like a striped t-shirt, top, or sweater. A tiny heart-print shirt or something with little polka dots would work too. Just be sure to add a pair of nerdy-cool glasses and your flares will look totally prep-school chic!
