Joanna Hillman / Harper's Bazaar, Senior Fashion Market Editor
J Brand 2345 Lexington Jeans ($167) in Pure
While jeans with ultralow-rise silhouettes and heavy distressing have enjoyed a certain popularity for a few seasons (nay, years!), Bazaar's Senior Fashion Market Editor Joanna Hillman is currently captivated by an entirely different look. Her denim of choice is a vintage-inspired, extreme boot cut jean with a clean, dark wash-J Brand's 2345 Lexington, to be specific. "It's been a while since I sported a high-waisted flare jean, but I am ready for them again this fall," she says. While the style is admittedly a departure from Hillman's typical picks, she already knows exactly how she'll wear them. "I will probably pair these jeans with something a little preppy," she says. What does that mean exactly? "My J. Crew black and white gingham button-down shirt (tucked in to show off the high waist of the jean), a big gold watch, and a high-heel bootie." The esteemed editor's styling plan is perfect, so do yourself a favor and follow her instructions exactly-you won't regret it!
Taylor Tomasi Hill / Marie Claire, Style & Accessories Director
My Lovely Jeans Trash Baggy Jeans ($150)
When selecting the perfect pair of jeans, there are always three things to consider: the cut, the wash, and how they fit. The order of importance is usually variable-depending on the wearer's whims-but for Marie Claire's Taylor Tomasi Hill, one aspect takes top priority. "My denim philosophy is that ease and comfort are always best," she says, which explains her adoration for the French brand My Lovely Jeans and their slouchiest denim option, which are available exclusively online at yoox.com. "These boyfriend jeans are the perfect balance between style and effortlessness," she says. "You can definitely wear them everyday." That's high praise from the much-photographed editor: don't sleep on her advice! We encourage you to create a TTH-inspired outfit around these jeans, which means styling them with generous amounts of statement jewelry, wildly cool ankle boots, and the editor's signature cat-eye sunglasses. We can't promise you'll become Tommy Ton's new favorite or get your own thread on the Fashion Spot, but it's a start.
Mary Kate Steinmiller/ Teen Vogue, Fashion Market Editor
TEXTILE Elizabeth and James Joni Cropped Flare Jeans ($235)
Oh, how we adore Mary Kate Steinmiller's style sensibilities! Whether it's through her work-she's the Fashion Market Editor for Teen Vogue, one of our favorite magazines-or simply via her own personal wardrobe choices, we never fail to appreciate the way this darling dresser puts clothes together. Obviously we were eager to learn what her must-have jean is for fall and happily her answer did not disappoint! Right now Steinmiller's go-to pick is the Joni Jean by TEXTILE Elizabeth and James, a style she approves of for three reasons. "I love that these slouchy jeans are cropped at an unconventional above-the-ankle length and have a bit of fray," Steinmiller says. And if that's not enough for you, consider the final factor: the way they feel. "The denim is so incredibly soft and worn-in," she says. "It feels like wearing next to nothing!" That's all the convincing we need! If you're ready to follow in Steinmiller's chic footsteps, be sure to take a page from her styling playbook and pair these jeans with a fitted white oxford shirt (tucked in, naturally), a studded belt, and platform heels. It's one of the editor's favorite outfit formulas and it's sure to work for you too!
Susan Cernek / Glamour.com, Senior Fashion and Beauty Editor
MiH Marrakesh Jeans ($189) in Reef
Full disclosure: Glamour's Susan Cernek is one of our favorite people in publishing. Period. She's a rare talent who has succeeded in multiple departments-fashion, features, and now digital-plus she has impeccable taste too. On that note, let's discuss her denim obsessions du jour! While Cernek's currently considering both the J Brand Bardot Jean ($187) and the Proenza Schouler High Waisted Skinny Jean ($275) for fall, right now MiH's Marrakesh Jeans seem to be at the forefront of her mind. It's a smart choice; in addition to being a celeb-favorite, this specific shape and vintage-influenced wash will work well into spring. In fact, the S/S 11 runways inspired Cernek's pick, specifically the way Derek Lam styled a similarly high-rise, wide-leg pair of jeans with a silky blouse (tucked in, of course) and a pencil-thin belt. "I almost made a run for Barneys right then and there," she says. "It's ladylike crossed with Carly Simon-just my cup of tea." Cernek is definitely a fashion savant, so be sure to heed her words of wisdom and snag a pair as soon as possible!
Jade Frampton / ELLE, Market Editor
J Brand Bardot High Waisted Skinny Jeans ($187)
As the Market Editor of ELLE, Jade Frampton has oodles and oodles of denim options at her fingertips. Surely she could wear a different pair every day for the rest of year if she wanted, but right now she only has eyes for a single style: the high-waisted skinny jean. But not just any slim and navel-grazing pair will do! No, Frampton's specifically focused on J Brand's Bardot Jean with its at-the-ankle hemline and uniformly dark wash. So why this silhouette and rinse over all others? In a word: versatility. In addition to working with both utilitarian flats and statement heels, the simplicity of this style is the perfect foil for many of fall's must-try trends. "I am looking forward to wearing these high-waisted skinnies with all of fall's cozy cropped sweaters," Frampton says. Her suggestion is accessible, understated, and interesting-in other words, sartorial perfection!
